Coming back home after a meal in this modern German restaurant along Torstaße in Mitte, only really one question was bothering me.....is this the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin?

Answer to follow. It's busy so booking is a must and there are plenty of reasons why.

Firstly, the service and atmosphere in this place can not be faulted.

The menu is specifically very Germanic and very authentic. I also love the fact it fits on one page....there is no need for pages and pages of choice when it's this good.

Extensive vegan and vegetarian options all over the menu, including a nice 3 course vegan menu for €40.

However, other menu choices to satisfy those meat eaters out there do exist including, and ironic when confronted with so many vegetarian dishes, a beef tartare for a choice of starter. It is a very unusual offering nowadays and my favourite dish of all time.

Having fought the urge for uncooked meat, we went with a nice fish course and boiled beef, and both of these were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The accompanying sides with the beef were all incredible, especially the creamed spinach and horseradish.

An excellent, very relaxed experience with first-rate menu and service. Yes, it's not particularly cheap. We had 2 mains and 2 drinks and a bottle of water for €100. BUT...

Let's be honest here and say that this price is not unusual in Berlin, and we have eaten far worse for more than this, so....

This is indeed, hands down, the best German restaurant I have been to in Berlin so far. We will return, and we will bring the kids next time.

Highly...

Great place! We went there for a family dinner, the atmosphere is really nice at Gärtnerei and a great place for smaller groups or dates. The service was very friendly and attentive at all times. The food was also delicious, very fresh and nicely arranged. They have vegan, vegetarian, meat and fish options. Sometimes it can take a little longer until you get your food in-between the courses, because everything is freshly cooked, which has the advantage of a little pause between the courses instead of being rushed through the menu.

🏆 Great place for plant-based dinner in a beautiful environment, in collaboration with their partner restaurant Fleischerei they also serve a few selected meat dishes. 🍽 Go for the veggie options, the compositions of the dishes are great 🥑 Veggie and vegan options available 👨🏻‍💼 Good for business dinners, not for bigger groups ♥️ Nice for couples or (at least second) dates 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Not great for small children 👔 Dresscode casual/Berlin-Mitte style 📍 In the middle of Torstraße, great location to head to a bar after dinner 🤳🏼 Instagramable 💸 Premium 💳...

This was disappointing. Not so much the food (although a bit of bread between courses would've been nice), but the service. It's slow and it's rude.

First of all I was treated to quite a rude welcome. I had made a reservation well in advance, just for myself. But when I got to the restaurant they told me: we don't have tables for one person, so you can either sit at the bar, or sit outside. As this evening it was clearly too cold to dine outside I ended up at the bar. The rudeness wasn't over though. After 20 min or so I was told to move over to a place further along the bar, to make room for two other guests that had just arrived. Ending up under constantly flickering lights, across from the sink where glasses were washed.

Secondly, service was really slow. Close to 3 hours for a 3 course meal.

Finally, nobody bothered to pay any attention to me anymore after desert. I was expecting somebody to come and ask if I'd like some coffee, or anything else. Nobody said a word to me though, until I finally asked...

It was one of the most delicious Schnitzels I've ever had. If you haven't tried the Schnitzel here or are genuinely seeking a tasty one, don't hesitate to place an order. Alongside the Schnitzel, they also serve a small plate of potato salad, which was average I would say. We ordered an Apple Spritzer as a beverage, but it wasn't excessively cold or overly fizzy, which didn't meet our preference. We chose to sit outside, but for our next visit, we'll definitely opt for indoor seating as it was not very comfortable outside. Particularly, the unevenness on the road near my seat affected the chair balance. While not the restaurant's fault, but still a solution could be found. Overall, it was a satisfying experience at Gärtnerei. Looking forward to returning and trying the indoor ambiance. Thank you!

We came for dinner to this place. One of us ordered the vegan menu, while the other had the scallops and the spinatknödel. The starter for the vegan menu, the tabouleh was tasty with raspberries. The scallops were tasty by themselves, but we found the combo with its green hummus sauce to be a bad pairing. The mains, which included the spinach Knödel and the cauliflower steak, were a bit disappointing. The cauliflower steak was a bit bland, with sauces tasting average at best. The knodels themselves were tasty, but the sauce was very dry. Kaiserschmarren was tasty while being unconventional, and the rote Grütze was also okay, the combo with the ginger ice cream wasn’t for us. Overall, the prices are a bit high and the vegan menu was a miss, but this place could have better dishes we haven’t tried.
