FULLY VEGAN ITALIAN BAKERY *
“Ick murkter ein fo-catcher”
Ordering Italian treats in German — with an English accent — is worth the embarrassment here.
The Sanctuary is a totally vegan bakery with cakes and focaccias, and it’s really tasty. Berlin has its fair share of great vegan baked goods, but The Sanctuary feels pretty unique to me. (They even have a glass wall at the back so you can see all the toothless Italian slaves making your croissants.)
While the place is really small, they try to allow space for people to sit, but it’s not a particularly nice spot to be because of all the foot traffic — a polite phrase for ‘vegan pigs’ queuing like me. That said, who ever went to hang out in a bakery? We’re so spoiled in Berlin that this has become a thing. The important part is that The Sanctuary is totally original, extremely delicious and definitely worth your time, vegan or not.
Then again, I’m writing this review from a hospital bed after surgery (unrelated to Italian cakes) and I’ve not eaten in almost two days — I’d wolf a piece of wet bread off a park bench if I could find one.
Also, the toothless Italian slaves thing was a joke: they’re probably not...

When I found this all vegan Italian bakery on google maps I knew I had to try it.
When I came in with friends we saw that this place offers „rettertüten“ for 6€ per bag including a selection of food from the previous day. We bought two and I loved that there was kind of a system behind the selection. Meaning there was one focaccia/pizza, one filled Croissant kind of thing, another savory one and a sweet pastry.
You could obviously taste that those pieces weren’t fresh but they still tasted really good and my non vegan friends ate like they hadn’t eaten anything the whole day (they ate right before).
I also bought a simple pizza Rosso from the fresh ones to compare and it was better but still I love that they offer those bags instead of throwing it away.
I’d love to come back and try more (I regret not trying...
Read morethe presentation is stunning. i bought the girella pistachio and a dirty chai with oat milk. the girella was good, crispy, but i will say it was a bit too sweet for me. the filling reminds me of cupcake frosting from store bought cupcakes. it was so sweet i had to offset it by buying a original cornetto. i much preferred the cornetto and i liked the slight sweet touch from the dusted powdered sugar over it, but in this moment i did not want more sweetness ahaha. the atmosphere: a little cramped. i arrived and expected a bigger seating area, but there were only three bar tables against the wall, one by the window and two right next to the counter- making it a little annoying for those trying to get a glimpse of the pastries or trying to order and those sitting trying to enjoy their baked goods. there is also NO bathroom, not even for customers. just so you know. overall, not bad, i would...
