If I could give a "no star" rating, I would. My daughter and I decided to eat dinner at Hasir our last night in Berlin as it was highly recommended by a Turkish taxi driver. We ordered several things...fried eggplant appetizer, chicken soup, lentil soup, grilled chicken, a hummus platter and a gluey, tasteless Turkish pudding for dessert. Overall, I found the food bland and underseasoned. I liked the chicken soup after squeezing the lemon juice into it. The grilled chicken was dry, not juicy, and had no flavor. The eggplant appetizer was OK but, again, not seasoned. I have eaten a lot of excellent Middle Eastern food over the years but found Hasir's food to be very mediocre overall. I would have enjoyed another bowl of the chicken soup with the lemon...but forgotten the rest! Their service was slow and the feeling there was one of disorganization. We waited 10 minutes before we even caught the attention of a young server, but saw several wait staff standing at the front of the restaurant idly chatting! Were we invisible??? I had to half stand up in our booth and flag down a young server .. then we waited another 5 minutes before an older gentleman brought us menus. At the end of our meal this same server, an older man well into his 60's, stood hovering at the end of our booth. He would not stop talking to us and had his eyes fixated on my daughter. My daughter is a strikingly beautiful young woman, but his overattentiveness was making us both uncomfortable. We didn't want to be rude, so we politely chit-chatted with him for a couple of minutes, but then it should have been obvious to him that we wanted him TO LEAVE US ALONE. He would not stop talking. He continued to stare at my daughter and even asked her where she lived (!!). My daughter was really put off by his familiar manner as was I. This man was at least twice her age and borderline predatory. My daughter and I were sitting in a booth trying to enjoy dinner and this server was crouching at the end of it, resting his elbows on the end of our table, his face inches from our plates and completely oblivious how invasive and unwelcome his behaviour was. When I told him that my daughter and I "needed to GO", he told me jokingly that he would give me all his livestock in exchange for my daughter (in her early 30s). I have a really good sense of humor, but that remark went WAY over the line. I informed Casanova that, "My daughter isn't property and she isn't for sale." His swarmy manner and inappropriate comments ruined our dining experience at Hasir. As a server, he should know it's inappropriate to openly leer at women diners! And you certainly don't make jokes to a mother about exchanging cattle for her daughter!! My daughter was so creeped out that she didn't even want to wait for an Uber in front of that restaurant, and insisted that we walk a block down the street (AWAY from Hasir) to call a taxi from inside a small market. She told me, "That guy made me SO uncomfortable. I don't want to wait for an Uber here (in front of Hasir). I want to get out of here...NOW!" My daughter is a very confident, successful, highly educated businesswoman who has traveled all over the world (she is no shrinking Violet!). I have never seen her look rattled at anything until that evening leaving Hasir. All she wanted was to enjoy a Turkish meal with her mother our last night in Berlin...not be hit on by a swarmy male server old enough to be her...

Read moreHorribly disappointing. Gluten free ignorance. The visit started badly with us having to wait in the cold for a table after I was ignored when I said I had made a reservation. The menu coding for allergens is wrong. Lots of dishes are labelled as not containing gluten but all have bulgur as an accompaniment. When I asked if the bulgur was gf, I was told "It's couscous" Then I was told "Bulgur, rice, bread all have gluten". I asked if they add something to their rice, they said no. Once we had ordered, drinks and salads arrived quickly. ONE HOUR later only 3 of the 4 meals arrived, the fourth came another 10 minutes later. My 26€ lamb karee was completely overcooked and only edible in the centre. Trying to eat the end pieces was like chewing on a boot. The rice I ordered to replace the bulgur arrived 15 minutes after the lamb and was freezing cold as in straight out of the fridge. My family were visiting us and so I wanted this to be a really nice evening, whilst they enjoyed their overpriced meals (#65 is a safe choice if you're not gf) the evening was spoilt by the experience. Completely not recommended, this is my honest opinion based on having lived in Berlin for a year and having tried other Turkish restaurants...
