I hate to type a review like this but we really did not have a great experience at Adlon Kempinski. Firstly, let me say that the staff were almost always excellent. The lobby and public areas are nicely kept. The breakfast buffet was great and had superb service and views. The actual stay, however was subpar. We had a disappointing stay for the first two nights of a week long stay and the resolutions were not satisfactory. There happened to be a loud wedding at the Adlon that evening. A Lamborghini was revving its motor, horns of many cars honking and loud music. I understand how a wedding is a special moment so we closed the window and decided to go have dinner and hope when we returned the wedding will have quieted down. It was our anniversary and I didn't want to highlight any of the problems in front of my wife. We went downstairs to have dinner and hope for the best. The dinner didn’t go well but I will leave that review with Quarre. When we get back upstairs and we are preparing to sleep the wedding became much louder. I phoned the front desk at 1030 and asked them when the wedding was going to be over and he said they are schedule for 10pm! Oh well, I guess I have to be patient. It was a cold evening so I tried to turn on the heater but climate control panel did not work. I was so tired I just went under the covers to watch TV and try to sleep. I turned on the television and after only 5-10 minutes it would go black, and then reset itself. I could only laugh to myself. We are at the 5 star Adlon hotel with a terrible meal, cold room and no television! Welcome to Berlin! I phoned the front desk to see if there was something that could be done like resetting the TV or the heat but unfortunately, the only thing that could be done would be to send up a repair person. Since it was 11pm, on our anniversary we decided to sleep and try to forget the evening. At this point I asked to have the manager phone us the next day. We waited but did not get a call so I phoned down to explain the situation later in the morning. I was told that the person needed time to figure out a solution but at this point my wife asked if we could just please have another room that had everything working in it. There was damage and other minor issues with the room so I understood her request; she was starting to get disappointed as I. Later we were told that they did not have any other rooms available until the following evening but they would send someone up to repair our tv and heater and then upgrade us once a room was available. We waited and waited, never imagining it would have taken so long. Much to our surprise, the repair person did not arrive until 5pm that day! While I was waiting for the repair man, I began to notice the wear and tear in the room. The carpets and drapes had stains (see photos) the desk was badly damaged and the windows were dirty and very damaged. Then the gentleman was able to repair the items after rebooting the TV and reconnecting the temperature control. Unfortunately, the television stopped working about 5 minutes after he left. He had said that if his repair didn't work, they would need to replace the television. The temperature control did not heat the room about 1 hour after he left so we spend the second evening cold and without television for the second night. I really began to regret choosing the Adlon Kempinski. Even the next day, we had to wait until after 3pm to move to our other room. This was a much larger suite which my wife liked and so I stayed silent about the frustrations I had from staying here. The "lady in red" came to visit us during our breakfast and asked if we were satisfied, I said yes because we were in front of many people at the entrance and I didn't want to waste more of my vacation time discussing problems that were never resolved. I am sorry for such a long response but I really feel that I was let down by Adlon Kempinski. I would have chosen another hotel since this one is so worn. Remember, we tried two rooms and both had serious...
Read moreMy wife and I typically travel to Berlin once or twice a year. For the last 15 years, I often frequented Hotel Adlon, sometime for a stay or enjoying a great meal in one of their fine restaurants or just having a coffee at the lobby lounge. Unfortunately, my most recent experience will prevent me from ever returning to this hotel again.
For our trip in March 2023, we decided we would splurge on a nice afternoon tea at Hotel Adlon. Two days prior, between some sightseeing, we went to enjoy a drink at the bar, and I noticed the service was not the same anymore. The doorman outside didn’t greed us, they didn’t even open the door for us. Inside the staff were having a great time chatting among them but totally ignoring the guests passing by. On the way to the washroom, in the stairway someone dropped a large amount of ice cream on the carpet and no one seems to be in a rush to have it cleaned. The bathroom was not attended and lacking in cleanliness.
Unfortunately, our experience went from bad to worse. We arrived for our Afternoon Tea sitting to be greeted in a wonderful manner by the lobby lounge reception staff. However, the standard of service diminished immediately on being seated. First of all, we were placed in a dingy corner table by the far end of the bar area. Having walked into the magnificent lobby lounge, the area we were in was quite disappointing. At that moment we realized that the afternoon tea during the week was not very popular. I counted only two tables including ours, the rest was the regular lobby lounge business of the hotel.
We took the champagne tea option and our waiter was a young man with glasses and dark jacket and definitely not to the standard of this kind of establishment. Either we were not to the waiter's liking or he was very tired and at the end of his shift. The only positive I could attribute to his manner would be to call him perfunctory. We were sadly let down by some dreadful service. The champagne was served and we waited 45 minutes to get our first dish. They only have two tables with afternoon tea in the entire lobby lounge, what is going on? I asked the waiter what was the problem? Why the food is taking so long to be served? His answer was “ Yes, it is too long. The kitchen is slow today”. Then the sandwiches finally came and they were dry and heavy. I was expecting lightness and perfection and I was rewarded completely the opposite. We were never ask if we wanted a refill on the sandwiches or the tea. By that time, I was not a very happy person and asked to speak with the Food and Beverage manager. He sincerely apologizes and was informed as well by the waiter of the unfortunate situation. I gave him my contact details and he left us. I was hoping that things will improve rapidly but again, we waited patiently for another 40 minutes before the next course, scones and the sweet pastries arrived. The scones were small and dry and some of the desserts were tasty and some were not. I've been to a number of establishments for afternoon tea before and accustomed to a certain standard which I felt was totally missing.
At that point we honestly had enough of this kind of rude treatment and we decided to leave (to be honest I just wanted to get out). I asked the waiter for the bill. He was apparently surprised that we were leaving so soon before the last dessert was served (No thank you, enough torture for one day). I received a bill for a total of €200 exactly. No compensations for all the trouble we went through. On the way out of the hotel I run into the Food and Beverage manager who witnessed how furious I was, and he promised to contact me as soon as possible. 3 months later, to this day, I am still waiting! This is the kind of hospitality we received at the Adlon. Things have changed drastically.
Afternoon tea at Adlon was simply awful and at €200 absolute daylight robbery! We feel massively cheated by the treatment we received. The level of service was far below what one expects from a 5-star luxury hotel, especially one of the...
Read moreGood morning Sir, Dear Sir, apologies Sir… that is their monologue but then, when it comes to substance, I can only summarise this wonderful, elegant and excellently located hotel as “Not well taken care of”.
Attention to details and on small things is inexhistent.
An extra large double bed was reserved and instead, I have found 2 twin beds connected with who knows what and a huge canyon in between, hidden by some thin matress cover
I’ve booked for a couple, I have gotten 2 separate duvet and cosmetics for just one person in the bathroom
The Air Con was indicating 21c but felt like 10 in the room, you can only go up and down 2 degrees manually by yourself and in case you need more, you have to call the reception or go there, and maybe they will change it for you manually before you fall asleep, in my case I woke up frozen.
I tried to make a tea to warm myself up and reduce my level of grumpyness after a cold May night (thanks to their aircon) and the kettle was leaking water from the wrong side/hole (see picture attached).
In the evening I asked for an Iron, considering they dont keep them in the rooms, I called them, spent 10 mins waiting for receptions to pick up, they said 15 mins Sir and at the end they delivered the iron 30 mins later; an old, falling apart iron board and a toy iron from Lidl.
Before getting there I had kindly asked for a room with the Brandeburg gate’s view considering the size of the hotel and the fact it was my girlfriend’s birthday and they replied:
Dear Mr XXXXX,
Thank you for sharing XXXX’s birthday details with us. We appreciate the opportunity to make her special day even more memorable during your stay with us.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENED instead!
The minibar only had BEER and Wines therefore, Not even comforting myself with a whiskey in order to calm down from this Overpriced show, has been possible.
The POOL not available, they mentioned a maintenance in place on the arrival, something going on for day which they shall mention during bookings, only this detail is worth a reinbursement.
