The location and decor are great and very tricky here. (as in some other places unfortunately) Food is mediocre and extremely overpriced. I wish I had taken a picture of the lasagne serving, which looked like a chunk of brownish vomit asymmetrically covering a few layers of toughened pasta sheets. Flavour was all to much sour and salty, leaving you reasonably doubting the freshness of it, after you assumed the chef's taste is bellow average on a lucky day. After we called the manager and told him we disliked the dish and we would like to have another instead, he looked confused and reluctant, as if that was the best dish in the world and we had to be all too stupid for not liking it. He did not apologise and amazingly didn't take the plate away until we called him again for it 5 minutes later. On top of that, they charged us for both the replacement dish and the lasagne. The rest of us had pizza, which was not bad, but not good enough to caress with any nice words really, tomato & basil soup ( could perfectly be a Heinz tin with a leaf of fresh basil), and, the replacement dish, Scampi Alla Griglia (grilled prawns), a 25 € "secondi plati", composed by 5 "okay"ly seasoned medium sized prawns, garnished with half a medium sized boiled potato, topped in a few rocket leaves, displayed through the plate suggesting a refined taste for whats to come... There is a difference between fine dinning and throwing away your money to an establishment who doesn't really care about you coming back or not because the nearby 5 star hotels, country embassies and city attractions does the job of keeping new customers on the attendance. (There was one very good thing worth noting though! The 1L bottle of italian still water with an allusion to Luciano Pavarotti was a...
Read moreOur friends recommended Viale dei Tigli to us prior to our visit to Berlin. After our dinner at the restaurant tonight, we have officially upgraded those friends of ours to BFFs! We had a wonderful dining experience at Viale dei Tigli. Our party of five ordered Spaghetti Carbonara, Penne Arriabata, Tagliatelle al Salmone and a seafood pizza. The pastas we had ended up ranking high on our personal list, which includes our favourite Italian restaurants in Singapore, Florence and Milan. After tonight, we'll be adding Berlin to that list! The portions are generous, the pastas fresh and al dente, and the sauces thick and flavoursome to the right degree. We also happen to like our pastas served hot, with steam wafting out of the dish (not simply warm). Viale dei Tigli hit the right thermal notes there, in addition to the right tasting notes. Beyond the blog-worthy dining experience, we also liked the restaurant's soothing ambience, with tasteful decorations and light jazz playing in the background. Even if you aren't feeling hungry, come by for a drink and unwind. Topping off our wonderful evening is Chef Luca, who came to Berlin at the age of five and is now living his dream. Luca exudes a friendly, down-to-earth, easy-going spirit, like your favourite uncle who never fails to make you smile. Thank you for your wonderful food and company, Luca....
Read moreService: The younger waiter of the two was rude, loud, very present and frankly came about as not very happy with his job in general (or maybe drinking?). I'm not sure what it was, but customer oriented did not seems part of his demeanor. We felt like a burden instead of welcome. The elder waiter was friendly and accommodating. Location and Looks: The restaurant looks very nice, no remarks about that and is very conveniently located. The food: We had soup and a platter of mixed fleisch (meat). The soup was oke, not bad but certainly nothing special. The meat platter however was a joke. We paid 52€ for two person. It consisted of 8 or 10 piece of (cheap) meat (two of each) where one kind was liver, of which we were not informed beforehand. The turkey or chicken was very dry and the meatballs were burned and tasteless. The only piece of meat that tasted remotely fine, was the steak. We only ate halve of it. The vegetables were warm, that's about all I can say, for the rest it was a sorry collection of potatoes, beens and broccoli. In general a sad meal and sad presentation, lacking any will to introduce authentic Italian cuisine. In the end we wanted to leave as soon as we could and forget about this experience. A warning to anyone who's expecting quality...
