La Colombianidad auf Deutsch: Macondo Café in Berlin 💛💙♥️🇩🇪
As a self-proclaimed ambassador of La Colombianidad, I'm constantly on a quest to savor the vibrant flavors that define Colombian cuisine. My recent stumble upon Macondo Café was a delightful reminder of why I cherish these culinary adventures.
There's a unique magic that happens when paisanos bring a piece of their homeland abroad – a heartfelt dedication that infuses every dish with soul.
Macondo itself is a charming reflection of this spirit. The café seamlessly blends the whimsical bohemian vibes of Berlin with the warmth of a Colombian living room. Imagine cozy couches, intimate tables, and the infectious rhythm of cumbia drifting through the air – it's the perfect setting for a taste of home.
We indulged in the Colombiano, a hearty platter featuring three crispy empanadas, bursting with savory shredded beef, which were the highlight. Alongside, we enjoyed arepitas, a comforting calentado (though perhaps with a unique Berlin twist!), and the pièce de résistance: a perfectly fried egg perched atop it all, served with a side of pico de gallo. Every bite was a testament to the love and care that went into its creation❣️
While sipping on a warming gluhwein (a nod to the 🇩🇪 winter), I couldn't help but appreciate seeing aguardiente on the menu, something that could go very well alongside this Colombian feast.
Macondo, you've successfully managed to encapsulate the flavours of La Colombianidad one...

I called at 19:50 to make a reservation for two people, asking if they had a table at 20:30. The guy who answered the phone was extremely rude for no reason since the beginning of the call: 1. He told me to speak louder as my voice was low, so I did (his background was actually noisy, I guess that's why he couldn't hear me well, but I understand) 2. I repeated, changing from German into English if it was possible to make a reservation for a table at 20:30. His first answer was "We don't take reservations after 21". Me: But It's almost 20 and not 21. Him: 30 minutes it's too short notice. I cannot go to the customers and tell them to leave the table because you need it. You can come and see if there is a table free. Me: I'm not asking you that, I'd like to make a reservation for 2 people. When do you have a table then? In case 21 or 22 is also fine just let me know. Him: Come and see if there is a free table.
I understand you don't make reservations after 21( it wasn't the case), but why didn't you just tell me that at the moment you don't have any table available at 20:30, to try to come later and see instead of being so rude? Reading other reviews on the internet, it seems I'm not the only one complaining about your manners. I'll keep doing my arepas & patacones at home then, but just a small tip: Kindness is free.
P.s. It wasn't a...
Read moreI’ve given Macondo several chances, but the service keeps getting worse. I’ve often waited over 30 minutes for my order while others were served quickly, and staff repeatedly acted confused or dismissive when asked about it.
On October 29th, 2025, my experience was simply unacceptable. We went straight to the bar to order, but the waiter laughed at us, refused to take the order, and told us to sit down. Ten minutes later he came to the table, took the order, and disappeared. After 25 minutes nothing had arrived, even newer tables were getting served, and he was busy flirting behind the counter instead of working. When he finally returned, he mockingly told a colleague that we “wanted to order,” as if he hadn’t spoken to us before. The level of disrespect was astonishing. We left after half an hour of waiting, completely ignored by the staff.
Macondo has a nice atmosphere and strong potential, but this kind of attitude destroys its charm. I sincerely suggest that the owner pay closer attention to staff selection—motivated and respectful employees could easily turn this place into one of Berlin’s most...
