The quality of the products that I’ve tried from this café has been great, but unfortunately I felt a real lack of organization and sense of hospitality.
I decided to buy a box of mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival (if you are Chinese, which the café’s team is, you know having mooncakes for this celebration is a big deal). I arrived on a Sunday hoping to get a box of mooncakes and have a coffee and pastry, but to my confusion they seem to have no more cakes or pastries (at 16h on a Sunday?). They then informed me that they only had one of the six mooncake flavors available to purchase on the spot, but I could pre-order a boxset for the day of the festival itself (Tuesday). I did so and left.
Tuesday comes around and I realize the café is marked as “closed” on Tuesdays on Google Maps; plus the voucher they have given me states pickup had been valid until 2 days before. I tried to get in touch with the team to avoid wasting a trip and confusingly, the “contact” tab on their website has zero contact information but instead several dozen pictures of cakes (?). Messages and comments on Instagram also went unanswered, all the while the account was still posting photos and stories of the mooncakes and more.
I went to the café anyway and to my relief found it open. I retrieve my mooncake box set and order a coffee to go. After waiting 15 minutes and seeing another couple who ordered drinks after me get serviced and leave, I approach the lady at the counter asking about my beverage. She politely tells me there is a queue and somehow seems to have forgotten me completely, even though I have been standing and waiting in front of her for 15 minutes.
We cleared up the misunderstanding and the team was very apologetic about the mixup — my drink was very tasty and unique and I enjoyed it a lot.
Getting home, I saw that the flavors of the mooncake set seemed all wrong (I was told the 4-set included Classic Lava Custard, Black Sesame & Soya, Matcha, and Osmanthus Oolong. My set instead came with only Black Sesame & Soya, with every single one of the other 3 flavors swapped out. While I enjoyed every single mooncake, as they were beautiful to look at and really tasty, what I got is not what was advertised nor what I purchased.
Long story short: Mistakes and misunderstandings happen every now and then, totally fine. But all of these confusing things happening over a single interaction was not a good experience.
Final note: café is small and crowded and unfortunately does not have...
Read moreDrinks were delicious but it's absolute chaos inside. There are 5 tables inside and there is no system to wait for a table - if a table becomes empty, it's like musical chairs trying to grab that table. The people behind us grabbed a table before us, even though we were there first. I complained about this to the waitress but all she could offer were empty sentiments - she didn't make any promise that they would improve. I told her to pass on my feedback to management but she didn't say she would. So that's why I'm leaving a review.
It's SO easy to solve this problem. Have a waiter/waitress walk up to anyone who enters the cafe and write their name and phone number down to wait for a table so that it's fair. Give them an estimation of how long it'll take and offer them the alternative to get takeaway. There were plenty of waiters/waitresses working at the time who could've done this. Every other restaurant and cafe does this in Berlin. And obviously there are other reviews like mine that mention it. Why would you not try to solve this issue to make it a more pleasant...
Read moreLovely small Chinese cafe offering amazing cakes, salty-sweet snacks and drinks. Classics such as basque cheesecake, roll cake and sago pudding with a unique twist. The savoury snacks such as pork floss + scallion buns or egg pastry seem very authentic and among the best I’ve tasted in Berlin. Staff is always friendly and helpful and their place super cute. Check out the handmade trinkets for sale! Unfortunately they don’t have a toilette therefore minus 1 star. Also it would be great if for their drinks they would offer a healthier alternative to cow milk/oatly such as almond, soy or...
