I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Susan, a delightful cocktail bar in the heart of Berlin Mitte, and I must say, it was a truly exceptional experience. This hidden gem, owned and operated by a Dutch national with a flair for mixology, offers an intriguing selection of classic and fusion drinks with a unique Asian twist.
The ambiance of Mr. Susan exudes sophistication and warmth, making it the perfect spot for friends and colleagues to unwind and reconnect over masterfully crafted cocktails. The moment I entered, I was welcomed by the friendly staff, and the cozy non-smoking environment was a breath of fresh air in a city filled with smoky bars.
The true highlight of Mr. Susan is undoubtedly its inventive cocktail menu. Among the various creative concoctions, my favorite was the Kim Chi margarita. A perfect balance of tangy and spicy, this drink is not for the faint of heart, but for those with an adventurous and refined palate, it's an absolute delight. The fusion of Asian flavors with classic cocktails showcases the bartender's expertise and creativity.
While some might find the prices comparable to other cocktail bars in the area, what sets Mr. Susan apart is its extensive liquor selection. The bar boasts a diverse array of spirits, catering to even the most discerning connoisseurs. So, whether you're a whiskey enthusiast, a gin lover, or a rum aficionado, you're sure to find something that suits your taste.
Another notable aspect is the convenience of payment options. I was pleased to learn that Mr. Susan accepts all major credit cards, including American Express, making the overall experience even more hassle-free.
Mr. Susan has undoubtedly carved a niche for itself in Berlin's vibrant bar scene, and it's no surprise why. The fusion of cultures and flavors, the impeccable craftsmanship behind each cocktail, and the warm and inviting atmosphere make this place a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary cocktail experience.
I highly recommend Mr. Susan for those seeking an adventure for their taste buds and a place to reconnect with their spirits, both literally and figuratively. It's a testament to the exciting possibilities when a Dutch national's passion meets Berlin's multicultural spirit. Whether you're a cocktail enthusiast or just looking for a unique and memorable evening, Mr. Susan will leave you craving for more. Prost and Cheers...
Read moreThis was by far the most interesting cocktail bar we visited in Berlin. We stopped in here two different times, once in the early evening and once just after midnight. This place has one of the most interesting drink menus in the city: the Kimchi Margarita with fermented kimchi juice was funky and bright (not an ingredient I would ever expect to work in a summertime Margarita); the Matcha Pineapple was the perfect balance of green tea and fruit for easy drinking; the Smoky Beet paired earthy Mezcal with beet juice in an interesting and easily crushable combination. We spent over two hours here each time, lazily drinking the menu because of all the interesting concoctions (and there’s a lot!).
This bar is thoughtfully designed: outdoor seating, nooks and crannies for small groups, and plenty of seats along the bar if you’re interested in watching their creations be assembled. The staff is extremely engaging and incredibly knowledgeable about spirits and cocktails — they love to talk about all the work that goes in their drinks. We loved hearing about how they came up with some of their drink designs and what they had in store for upcoming menus (and also loved hearing the owner’s story about making it to Berlin!).
I would recommend this bar to any cocktail lover (though they have a selection of beer and wine as well). Definitely put bar on your list — I would not be surprised to see this in a future cocktail guide, as it certainly already belongs on the best of Berlin! The hospitality, quality of drinks, and banter is the absolute best, we will ABSOLUTELY be back the next time we...
Read moreWas truly meant to be. We experienced Mr. Susan on our first night ever in Berlin. Spotting this non-descript cocktail bar on a corner, as we wheeled our luggage to check-in to our Airbnb, eyes lit up as our evening plan was sorted : ) A warm talented couple, Susan & Robbert own this establishment.. we were taken care of by Robbert. A fully stocked bar, Korean inspired cocktails plus classics. We started with The Last Word, was introduced to the La Louisane & best of all, we had the Haru Soju. Here's the interesting part, something we discovered by accident as Robbert spoke casually about it after our 2nd cocktail and 45 minutes into our conversation, this Soju is a special creation by the couple who methodically iterated 27 times to land on this exceptional drink. We had it on ice with a dried slice of fruit and just kicking ourselves for not buying more. Because I'm not sure I know where to buy it except at Mr Susan. This small batch drink is beautiful, subtle, spicy and unique. Aah well, we might have to return to...
