Night Kitchen — Restaurant in Berlin

We had dinner last night for two, and I can only write positive comments. The place is really very characteristic and tastefully decorated, with a beautiful warm and cozy atmosphere. At times it doesn't feel like Berlin, yet it is at the same time very Berlin-like. It's a convivial atmosphere, a small and crowded place, but at the same time you manage to be intimate. Perhaps it is helped by the décor and table arrangements that contribute to this feeling of intimacy. My partner and I were at a small table in the main hall at the entrance: we hardly felt that we were among other diners, however we could feel the warmth of sharing the same experience with other guests. Speaking of the service, I can only give it an extremely positive rating. Lots of staff, all young and extremely friendly and polite, easy going and attentive but not intrusive, precise and polite. They don't wear a uniform, so everyone has their own style and personality, and this goes perfectly with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Lots of smiles. Fast service, dishes arrived at the right cadence, without flooding us and at the same time keeping a good pace. Let's talk about the food: you can feel that the ingredients are fresh and of a good quality, and the preparation is well executed and well presented. It's appropriate to the venue so not pretentious but very pleasant, flavorful, interesting. Above all, of great variety, but at the same time well homogeneous, you feel that there is the same footprint and that it is a menu that has been well thought out and excellently executed. Very good cooking, well-balanced and non-trivial flavors, you can feel the very good quality of the raw material. We chose the dinner with friends, and I can only recommend this formula: we ate a lot until completely full, drank several glasses of pleasant and good quality wine for the price paid. In short, a very nice place, with a beautiful easy and relaxed atmosphere, great as much for a dinner with friends as for a moment with your partner, with quality and well-prepared food and a very attentive and friendly staff, all at an absolutely proportionate price. We sat outside for most of the night and the atmosphere was wonderful. However when we were moved indoors, it was VERY loud, but still a good time.

The food was superb!! So good! And there was a constant stream of it that came out of the kitchen, each one very different from the last and every one of them was excellent.

The staff were very friendly and mostly attentive, however... we made it super super clear that one of the guests at our table has a DEADLY food allergy to nuts and to please ensure that we are not sent ANY dish with any kind of nuts included. The staff understood this and agreed that they would not be bringing any dishes that contained nuts. Towards the end of the main dishes, a dish was sent out to us where there was a significant amount of pistachio nuts that were on the bottom of the meal. Luckily, the person with the allergy discovered this before eating the dish, but this could have been a disastrous situation.

To be fair, the server was unaware that the dish contained the nuts, but still. The problem was that while the server was very apologetic, there was no compensation or recompense offered to the guest for this significant error. And due to the error, the guest did not feel comfortable eating for the rest of the evening.

To top off the night, there was a problem with the billing app (Luca) that the restaurant used, which meant that the person who paid the bill was charged TWICE! for the whole evening. A very significant amount of money. Again the staff were incredibly apologetic, and understandably embarrassed. But there was little they could do on a late Friday night as it was not their app.

Would I go back? Yes, absolutely. Would I take a person with an allergy? Nope. Would I use the Luca app to pay? Hell no! Would I recommend going to this restaurant? Absolutely, as long as you don't have an allergy or don't pay with...

We came here last night for a team dinner (group of 7 persons). During the meal everything was perfect, the food, the service, the waiters very nice. They brought the meals quickly, everything was delicious. If was a good experience so far. HOWEVER, when it came to the bill (470€), the ‘manager’ came to tell us that normally they only accept invoice payment from 500€ (which we were not informed beforehand despite multiple email exchanges prior to our visit). So, she asked if we can tip 30€ to round it up. We considered that it was our decision to tip and it shouldn’t be requested like this. So we signed the 470€ invoice and gave her extra 9€ as tip. But then while leaving, we noticed that the 9€ were put back on another table beside ours, so we thought they forgot to take it. But no, in fact the manager was very upset about the amount of the tip, saying like “is this serious”, “we don’t need that, no thank you”, “you can take your money back” is a very very condescending way. We were extremely shocked by this attitude, it was very disrespectful especially in front of the other costumers. As a reminder ‘Madam’, tips are not granted, they are given at the discretion of the costumer!
