We visited here Friday 6th August 2021. We walked 22km today and I am guessing that the Muted Horn represented about the furthest point of the walk. We were staying at Steigenberger Hotel, which was right next to Berlin Hauptbahnhof, so just over 7km or an hour and a half walk or alternatively 30mins by public transport, it looks like the S5,7 or 9 change at Jannowitzebrücke take the U8 to U Boddinstr. it's only 5min walk from here along Flughäfestraße
It wasn't how I expected it to look, it's very cool and modern looking, I guess fitting in quite nicely with its urban surroundings with an outside area out front with tables, it sort of looks like you were entering a hotel garage. Inside it is also modern, I guess inside it reminds me a little of Moeder Lambic, Brussels (the newer one) so concrete, brickwork, a long bar on the left. We used the extensive beer lists on the table and had a flight of beers and an amazing bag of Ras el Hanout Popcorn.
We initially sat outside, but moved inside when it started to rain. Staff were brilliant at adherence to COVID and asking customers for details, even when handling tricky situations where some younger folk hadn't been vaccinated, they were kind enough to point out where they could get a Schnell Test immediately, and handed folks umbrellas (it was very light rain) to continue sitting outside. The beer choice was excellent, staff knowledge equally top notch. The clientele was a nice mix of ages, male, female, some local guys and a few American accents also detected. I can see why this is one of the top beer bar destinations not just in Germany or Europe but Worldwide, it's the attention to detail and staff who are constantly striving for excellence.
We really, really liked the Muted Horn and along with BierLaden these were our two standout places in Berlin. Btw Re: that popcorn, I got home and ordered €50 of Popcorn online, thats how...
Read moreProbably one of my new favorite places in Berlin. They have a large selection of international ales ports and stouts, which they seem to cycle through regularly. All of them are or seem absolutely delicious, so I'm excited come and keep trying them out. The bar is still staffed by its two owners, which makes it a very warm and welcoming experience. Their third staff member (the one that I've met) is Dutch like me, so that was a fun surprise. Having come with only my dog, I was at no point looking at my watch or phone. Everyone here is super friendly and always down for a chat. The bar itself is almost a hidden gem.. When walking from U8's Boddinstraße, it's completely obscured by the outdoor tents of it's neighbouring falafel house (cheap and also good for a midnight snack!). You pretty much have to walk into the Penny's parking lot before you see their little neon horn illuminated in the front window. Once inside, you really get the modern Berlin vibe: a few well maintained brick walls, lightbulbs strung from ropes, and the mixed-matched furniture that pulls everything together. Even their taps are unmarked, raw wood pieces. They've got an elaborate selection of beer, as I mentioned earlier, which can be found on their clipboard menu's. These are ordered from lightest to darkest beverage, which I much prefer over the typical alphabetical approach. They even have a list of board and card games on the menu, which are free for any to use while enjoying your drink. I realize now this review is much longer then I intended to write, I guess I just got carried away because I'm just happy to find that such a place exists. I really recommend going here if you're up for a gezellige night out, alone or...
Read moreThis review is based on my visit at Muted Horn in June.
Muted Horn greets you with a big neon sign and a simplistic interior. Because of that, it can feel a little bit empty during off-hours, but the board games and card games definitely contributed to make the place feel more cozy and personal.
They have a lot of taps of which you can see on their website which beers that are currently on. It seems like they are frequently rotating taps. The selection of beers when I was there had a good spread of beer styles, but personally did not wow me. However, I have seen that they have had great tap takeovers from renowned breweries all around the globe.
They do not offer food, but they provide napkins and cutlery if you want to bring your own food or order food there.
I would really like to visit them sometime in the future again and I can recommend Muted Horn to people who would like to try out new and exciting beers while being in a spacious...
