We had dinner there with friends. Honestly, the interior and the overall atmosphere are really beautiful. The location is also super convenient.
However, the food quality seemed pretty average to us. Just regular pasta nothing special, no unique ingredients or interesting sauces. Very basic, like something you could easily make at home. Even the quality of the pasta itself was just okay. There wasn’t that “wow” factor at all.
And another big thing - the service. We found it a bit… confusing. It felt like we weren’t really welcomed as guests. The waiters interacted in a strange way, and some of the food presentations were odd. There was some warmth in their attitude, but also a kind of tension that made it hard to relax.
The vibe was cozy at first, but overall the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. I also feel like the prices are too high for the quality you get.
One more thing: when we left in the evening, a group of teenagers started gathering there - they looked like high school seniors, drinking alcohol and behaving quite loudly. The music got very loud too, and it just didn’t feel comfortable anymore.
So, if you’re looking for a peaceful, cozy evening - I wouldn’t really...
Read moreCheated by the waiter. We had a pleasant evening over a bottle of wine and left a good tip. Waiter confirmed twice when we told him the amount to charge. When we got home and glanced at the receipt that we had previously ignored, we realized that he had put an extra 5 EUR on top of what we had said - however, there is really no way of confusing 125 with 130, or is there? Spoiled the entire night for us because we just felt stupid and cheated. (And one of us speaks fluent German, so nothing has been lost in translation if that is what you want to try to suggest.) If this does not put you off, note that food is not much better than mediocre at best and incredibly unimaginative. Not deserving the elevated prices in whatever way. Much better Italian places to be found in Mitte. I have been living in Berlin for a couple of years now and would generally recommend avoiding Charlottenburg if you like good food and are less interested in just spending a great deal no matter what you get in return. Best restaurants to be found in Mitte, Xberg and...
Read moreI was very excited to try Ovest as I had passed it a few times walking by. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The margarita pizza (18eur) was terrible and absolutely not worth this price. The Ovest pasta was average and there was way too much sauce. I was fooled by pictures from other reviewers but what we got served looked nothing like that. The margarita dough looked like it had been defrosted and was smaller than other pictures and rectangular. This was a flag. Nothing seemed very fresh and we felt deceived in terms of food quality. The service was fine but kept talking to us in German when they knew we don’t speak and we had previously spoken in English. This isn’t a terrible thing but a detail. The music was very loud as well but I understand it was a Saturday and a need to create more atmosphere. On the plus side, the area where Ovest is placed is lovely and the restaurant is well decorated.
There are way, way better Italian places in Berlin and we...
