Beautifully decorated and interior designed bar within one of the newest hotels in Mitte, Berlin. It's worth a visit as far as the bar is concerned and the restaurant looks amazing, but I will reserve judgement on that until we eat there. Bar is highly recommended for fantastic drinks and bar menu and fantastic ambience.
FURTHER NOTE ON RESTAURANT....Just had an amazing meal at Roots for Christmas Eve. Service was exemplary, as expected. However, the real surprise for me was the quality of the food as it was of a really high quality indeed. I can personally say that the Beef Tartar, Tuna Tartar, Lamb, and the Mousse Chocolate were 10/10.
Truly exceptional menu and beautifully balanced dishes throughout. The sushi options were also of a very high quality. The only downside I could find was that they ran out of Ketchup, much to the disdain of both of my daughters!
Regardless of this, it was a superb experience with the only caveat being that 8 people spend over €650 and if that's in your budget, this is highly recommended, and it would be hard to find much better anywhere else without looking at Michelin restaurants.....enough said!
FURTHER NOTE ON BRUNCH AT ROOT....we came for Brunch, and I had my first cappuccino here and Full English Breakfast in Berlin. The girls had the Steak Frites. First, the cappuccino was very disappointing, although not the worst I have had in Berlin, it was far below the standard I expect from this place. Not a equipment issue, more a lack of experience by whoever was preparing it.
The poor cappuccino is emphasised even more because the breakfast and the steam Frites were fantastic. Really nice.
Recommended, just avoid the cappuccino if you are a coffee nut like myself. Otherwise,...

Our experience might have been different midweek. On a Saturday evening shortly past 8pm, it was poor.
Hard to get our harried waiter's attention. The restaurant floor appeared understaffed so we were happy to cut them some slack.
The soup and the sushi were okay. Can't say anything about dessert as we ordered some but there was a mixup that nobody bothered to communicate to us until we asked 30 minutes later. What we had ordered was no longer available so something else was brought and we were told that was on the house.
Told the waiter as we were paying that he should have let us know a bit earlier as what we had ordered was the only dessert that we were interested in. As a paying guest, it would be nice to have a choice in what we are eating.
That was apparently unacceptable. He chose the "no tip" option in a huff and stormed off. I was going to leave him one, but I guess he didn't want it.
Mentioned the incident to the restaurant manager, who managed a perfunctory apology and similarly turned around and left.
Sad - this restaurant’s kitchen is let down by the management of...

Service was friendly but extremely slow. Food was either too salty or didn't taste of anything. The wagyu was ruined as it was drowned in an overpowering sauce - what a waste. Sushis were OK but no real flavour here. Wasabi had a really weird texture, almost like a juice - also no flavour. Yes I have had real wasabi. Only dish I liked was the soft-shelled crab but you can't go wrong with chucking something in the deep-fryer. I can't even remember what other dishes we had as they were so underwhelming and unremarkable, and totally forgettable.
Dessert platter was very pretty but didn't feel like the elements were cohesive. Chocolate sorbet was enjoyable (but then again, hard to go wrong here) but the mochis were melted and almost liquid. The other random things thrown on the plate could have been omitted. The desserts were relatively refreshing and not too sweet, however again lacked any real flavour.
Root is very clearly a poor attempt by a Western chef at Asian food and it does not deliver. For the price, it's definitely...
