Really charming little cocktail bar with a beautifully done 40s/50s vibe. It’s cozy and stylish without feeling cramped, and we had no trouble getting a seat on a Thursday evening. The staff were absolutely lovely — friendly, attentive, and welcoming from the start. We were immediately brought water (as every good cocktail bar should!) and even got some complimentary olives and mixed nuts, which was a very nice touch.
The presentation of the drinks is next level — creative, playful, and full of thoughtful details that really elevate the whole experience. My girlfriend’s drink (“Breakfast at Tiffany’s”) was served in a jewelry box, and mine (“Rescue Rangers”) arrived inside a giant sculpted hazelnut, with the top half acting as a lid and a tiny squirrel perched on top. It was whimsical and impressive — definitely the kind of thing you remember and tell people about.
That’s why it was a bit confusing when the drinks themselves didn’t quite live up to the promise. My cocktail, with aged rum, several nut liqueurs, and fresh citrus, somehow ended up tasting like a watered-down Mai Tai — and not because it was trying to be one. But to be fair, the flavor profile wasn’t entirely off-base: rum, citrus, and nut elements do overlap with a classic Mai Tai, so the resemblance isn’t totally surprising. Still, in a bar with this much creativity, I was expecting something much more distinctive and layered.
The “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” had a similar issue. On paper, it sounded exceptional — Haku vodka, roasted macadamia, arabica beans, homemade crème de cacao — but in the end, it tasted more or less like a diluted Espresso Martini. We doubt that was the intention, and we genuinely couldn’t figure out how so many interesting ingredients ended up producing such a basic (and flat) flavor profile. Especially when you consider that something like arabica beans should complement, not completely dominate, the drink.
That said, everything else about the experience — from the decor to the staff to the atmosphere — was truly great. The bar clearly cares about crafting something special, and it shows in every detail. We just wish the drinks had matched the same level of care in their flavor. If they had, we probably would have stayed for multiple rounds. As it was, we stopped after one, but would still consider coming back — maybe to try different drinks and see if it was just...
Read moreA hidden gem in the heart of Friedrichshain; for cocktail lovers this bar is unmissable. Small but picturesque, Timber Doodle is owned and manned by the talented and truly creative Susanne. Each cocktail is a work of art, and while there are tables available (with appropriately romantic and flattering lighting) I highly recommend snatching a seat at the bar and watching a master at work. Each drink is a labour of love, but be warned - like some of the best things in life, each drink takes time. The menu is itself a work of art, printed within a book, and each cocktail has its own unique story (printed in both English and deutsch). For the quality of drinks, prices are reasonable (ca. 10-12€) and there are multiple alcohol free options for the non-drinkers. While every single cocktail was delicious, I have to say the Cabezon (mezcal cocktail on the last page) was the true highlight of the night for me. A++, will definitely...
Read moreOne of the most inventive and unique bars I've been to. Plenty of thought placed into the presentation (which involves unique glasses, flowers, and accessories), the menu (which changes periodically), and the recipes (which involve a wide variety of unique ingredients). Most drinks cost around 15 euros (as of July 2025). The service is super attentive, polite, and knowledgable - they know the menu and all ingredients inside out, and can also advise you well. The ambient is very nice - the interior is well nicely and pleasantly decorated, and not too noisy, even though some of the bar tables are places somewhat near each other. It doesn't ever really feel crammed, though. Outdoor seating is available as well, and save for the periodic police siren typical for the neighborhood, is just as comfortable, and offers the benefit of the outdoor air.
I always look forward to...
