Windburger — Restaurant in Berlin

Amazing burgers, helpful staff and best of all, ridiculously good value! Being used to UK/London prices for a 'gourmet' burger, it's unusual to find two burgers, a portion of fries/chips and a couple of drinks for under £25: more if those drinks happen to be alcoholic. At Windburger, two very tasty burgers, a huge portion of sweet potato fries, sauce and two Fritz Cola's came in at a lofty €14! The burgers aren't of ridiculous portion size either like you often find in the UK, meaning we left Windburger feeling content rather than as if we were about to explode. I'm not sure the overall experience was necessarily better than going to somewhere like Honest Burger or Patty & Bun in London as the restaurant works on a self service basis where you place your order at the till, are given a buzzer and have to collect your meal when summoned. Awesome place, my first address for burgers in Berlin. You get a real Burger from 3€ up and they have a range of awesome (batatas fries) and you have to like it (vegetable fries) sides to choose from. There are also vegetarian burgers and the burgerbuns are handmade. Not sure whether by them or someone else, but sure handmade. A few fancy options for customizing your burger are available (e.g. avocado). Please try it, I am rooting for them for ever since I had my first.

Also they have Windburger Stickers, each time different ones, my fridge is kind of plastered with them. They range from generic to very cool.

There often is a crowd. The shop is really small and stuffed with people most of the time. I like it, you get a sense of achievment when you managed to be seated and you get to talk to people to find some room. Outdoor seating is available. You can order upfront and take away.

I would have given it 1* if it wasn’t for the burger.

I know we’re in Berlin and just about anything goes here. However, that doesn’t give you the right to earn your stars.

No thought given to design (that picture of the nice restaurant is not on Windscheidstr!) No attention to cleanliness. No spirit of service. Mediocrity everywhere, except perhaps on price value for the burger itself.

After a 24 minute wait in a non-inviting entrance area, I got my 2 burgers, just warm, just OK. No evidence of hand made, neither for the burger nor for the fries.

Despite my having asked twice about my burger, the guy at the counter wouldn’t flinch nor smile.
