Frittenwerk Bonn — Restaurant in Bonn

As a Canadian living in Bonn, I got really excited I could finally get poutine here in Germany! It's such a homey and nostalgic dish for me. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. The branding is very "Canadian", and I expected to see several varieties of poutine on the menu - there were only two. For reference, poutine is: fries with cheese curds and gravy on top (you can add things on top of this, but if it doesn't have those ingredients, they are just loaded fries, not poutine). The rest of the options, and large majority of the menu, were loaded fries and mexi-fries. While the branding is sexy, it's misleading. I ordered the Quebec poutine, which is closest to what a real poutine should be, and found that there were no cheese curds, just melted mozzarella. So, the poutine they sell at Frittenwerk is not poutine, just cheesy fries with a bit of gravy. It just disappoints me that Frittenwerk is super loud about using Canadian branding (there is a massive maple leaf in lights inside the location), but then only features a tiny fraction of poutines on the menu (some of them, like the Pink Persia Poutine, don't include cheese OR gravy...meaning they are just loaded fries), and pretty sorry excuses for poutines, at that. My order tasted just okay in the end, but the maple-washing of this place has annoyed me enough that I will not be returning. Frittenwerk had an amazing opportunity to introduce a delicious variety of real poutines to Germany on a large scale, instead, they dumbed it down and mis-represented Canada's food along the way. Guess I'll just have to go to Canada to...

Das Frittenwerk ist ein klassisches und modernes Fast-Food-Restaurant, das sich auf Fritten spezialisiert hat. Neben verschiedenen Fritten-Gerichten bietet es auch Salate und Snacks wie Crispy Chicken, Currywurst, Falafel und Churros an. Viele der Gerichte auf der Karte sind vegan oder vegetarisch. Besonders nett finde ich die Auswahl zwischen "normalen" Fritten, Knoblauchfritten oder Süßkartoffelfritten. Allerdings ist der intensiv und langanhaltend schmeckende Knoblauch-Nachgeschmack der Knoblauchfritten nicht nach meinem Geschmack.

Zu den Fritten können verschiedene Dips bestellt werden, die eine tolle Ergänzung zum Gericht darstellen. Die Getränkeauswahl ist vielfältig. Es gibt allerdings keine speziellen Gerichte für Kinder. Die Bestellung erfolgt an einem Bestellterminal, und auf dem ausgedruckten Bon steht ein Namenscode für die Bestellung, die dann aufgerufen wird.

Negativ ist mir aufgefallen, dass am Ende des Bestellprozesses am Terminal nach einem Trinkgeld gefragt wird. Es wird ein Prozentsatz als Trinkgeld vorgeschlagen, und der "Nein"-Button ist dabei schlechter zu sehen als die anderen Optionen. Mir erschließt sich nicht, wofür hier ein Trinkgeld gerechtfertigt ist, besonders da dies bezahlt wird, bevor man weiß, ob der Service gut war.

Das Aufrufen der fertigen Bestellungen funktioniert in einem gut gefüllten Restaurant nicht gut, da hierfür keine elektronische Verstärkung oder Ähnliches benutzt wird, sondern der Koch mit seiner Stimme durch den Laden ruft. Das Essen ist lecker und sättigend. Beim Besteck und der Verpackung wird auf Nachhaltigkeit geachtet.

Die Toiletten sind nummerncodegesichert, wobei der Code auf dem Bestellzettel steht und tagesabhängig ist. Für jedes Geschlecht gibt es eine Toilette, wobei eine davon behindertengerecht ist.

Bei unseren Bestellungen handelte es sich um Montreal Style Poutine mit extra Röstwiebeln, Currywurst Spezial, Chicken Shawarma Poutine, eine kleine Portion Fritten mit veganer Mayo, BBQ Pulled Pork Poutine jeweils mit normalen Fritten und BBQ Pulled Pork Poutine mit...

Best to be avoided if you want fresh and warm fries. On the website and menu there are plenty of vegan options but once at the shop it’s all sold out. Neither were the sweet potato fries. Then came the fries, fried more than once (obviously shows on the product all yellow and hard on the inside) and hardly warm. After complaining they were willing to make new ones but come on, is this a serious fries shop? Then make the best fries! The taste of the fries is nothing special by the way. Forst and last visit. And one more thing: they charge me €0,15 for every bottle of drink and when you return it to the counter is ‘thank you’ and no refund. So where does...
