A fantastic Srilankan (Indian) Kitchen by Momma! There is nothing left for me but to give this cool tiny little place a 5 * review. Hey, you are by Mama! Or would you dare to review a nice friend who invites you to eat by his family anything else but a AAA note? Not to mention how warmth, open and charming their wellcome was and how their spoil your body and soul. Ok, I mean your 5 senses! Why 5 senses?
SIGHT? hmm... you really gotta be there yourself. Nothing is cooler than taking a seat at a Pilot Lounge with Buddhas or Goddess Posters! Yes, the (M)TV is on in high but stil enjoyable volume (HEARING) to spoil you with some trendy music - lol from a vintage color box placing on the top of the refridge/cupboard. As soon as you decided what you you feel like eating, - by Mama- you eat the best! - the lady host rushed her way to the kitchen (that noon she was alone without her loving hubby bec the real busy ho starts later on weekends) and from that on she'd pamper you with great great SMELL from the kitchen. You could also overhear what she is magicly doing. Once she is back with the generous food trays you'd def. say and sign your adoption certificate by Mama & Papa Srilanka. Yes, I will! I have never eaten such an authentic & traditional Srilankan or Indian, well prepared (seasoned, marinated, cooked, fried or whatever) dishes- ever! Not even close to the exclusive Indian Resto at Barbarossa Sq. So you got my forth sense now: TASTE?!
The fifth- the TOUCH sense? Oh well, if you were really there you'd shake Mama's both hands, kiss her both cheeks and embrace her for awhile before leaving her busy with another 'adoption' matters... ;-) I bet you would!
I probably already forgot what we ordered there. But IMHO, whatever you order (we got lamb, chicken and beef) you'd be under her magic yummy...

Upon crossing the threshold, patrons are greeted by an ambiance that conjures visions of old-world Bombay cafés – a vintage reverie woven with authenticity.
Our culinary expedition began with the Vegetarian Biryani – a masterpiece that encapsulated the essence of traditional flavors. Accompanied by an ensemble of papad, exquisite chutneys, and a tantalizing touch of chili, each forkful was a revelation of taste and heritage. A gastronomic treasure that resonated with the authenticity of a home-cooked feast.
The Veg Pattice, an exquisite creation, further underscored Lakshmi's prowess. The sensation of familiarity, akin to savoring a family recipe, painted each bite. An edible ode to culinary heritage.
Yet, Lakshmi's allure extends beyond its delectable fare. The venerable guardian of this gastronomic sanctum, a gracious elderly matron, presides with an impeccable blend of solicitude and expertise. Her presence, akin to a culinary maestro, orchestrates a flawless ballet of service.
Cleanliness befits Lakshmi's offerings, attesting to a commitment to excellence. The economical pricing belies the treasure trove of flavors presented. A culinary adventure at Lakshmi is an unreserved endorsement.
In the realm of epicurean discovery, Lakshmi stands as a resounding YES. A meandering voyage to South India and Sri Lanka beckons, elegantly poised within the heart of Cologne. Read moreThis is such a lovely little shop – small in size, but truly big in heart and flavor. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed by the warm atmosphere and the genuinely kind staff. The owner, an elderly lady originally from India, brings a beautiful personal touch to everything. She still cooks herself and has now built a larger team to help, but you can feel her influence in every dish.
The food is absolutely delicious – full of authentic Indian flavors and clearly made with care. From curries to snacks to fresh rice dishes, there’s something for everyone. Whether you're vegetarian or prefer meat, there are many tasty options. One special highlight is their Mango Lassi – you really must try it! It's refreshing, creamy, and perfectly balanced.
Even when I’m not dining in, I often grab something to take home or just a quick bite to go. It’s become a favorite stop in my routine. The place may not be fancy or large, but the flavor, love, and authenticity make it truly special.
Highly recommended – for both locals and visitors who want real Indian food made with soul and served...
