The owner was extremely unfriendly to me! I am not coming back. After seeing a number of unfriendly incident reviews I decided I have to speak up also.
I wanted to have a lovely Südstadt morning outing and checked the opening time on google maps beforehand - it said 8am, I also tried checking on their website and on Instagram, there was no information there. I arrived at 9am and sat down outside, I was immediately in an unfriendly manner told by the owner they are closed and will open in 15 minutes, so I decided to wait. In 10 minutes I am approached to ask to leave because they are still closed and will open later (so 15 minutes were not really 15 minutes and I also was not allowed to wait there).
Apparently 8am is only for to go, so I ordered my pastéis de nata and matcha latte to go. I tried pointing out that on google maps it says 8am and nowhere else can it be seen they open as a cafe later, which is unhandy if you plan a morning in their cafe. I am a local Kölnerin and was told “yes you just don’t know our place”. So apparently only Südstadt locals know that 8am is not 8am but some unknown time after 9am and 15 minutes are not 15 minutes and you have to leave.
Pastéis de nata were made fresh for the day but they were lukewarm when I got them at 9:10am. The pastry was not very crunchy and at the bottom slightly fatty / soggy. They also have no powdered sugar to add on top of pastéis de nata (a must in Portugal). I have been to Lisbon many times and am frequently in Manteigaria in Lisbon, so I know what I am talking about.
My matcha latte had big clumps of unstirred matcha powder throughout.
Also a Portuguese café should by definition be friendly, I have never met an unfriendly person in Portugal ever during my many visits.
I was hoping to come here often for pastéis de nata and Portuguese flair but with this treatment of guests I will sadly just have to wait for my next...
Read moreFriendly, but I'm afraid not very efficient. Went there last Sunday. As a Portuguese, there were some home products, but not even close as many as one would think in a place with a Portuguese name. We decided to have two expressos and the waiter told us to seat outside and he would bring them. We've waited some good 15min, all while watching the waiter busy with other customers ordering and paying. We've decided to get up and go... It was too much... I don't know if he forgot our order, or was too busy. Probably is not his fault that he is all alone there, but in such a small place, with no more than 10 customers at the time, the service should have a lot more...
Was ist vorgefallen?
