Coffee Lab Cologne — Restaurant in Cologne

Greek chain hits Ehrenfeld with its variety of coffee roasts, Greek pies and some sweets. This place got potential, but lacks some consistency and quality.

Enriching the buzzy Venloer Street in Ehrenfeld with a new café, this place comes with a fresh Greek twist. The warm Greek welcoming is followed by a selection of pastries and coffees. The selection of coffee roasts is a very nice touch, a shame that the barista skills are not quite there yet, as they consistency. A few days open and the coffees don’t always look like their Instagram may want to make you believe. I hope that will change, as it is not just the latte art missing, but also the way of pouring the coffee, which comes with a burned aftertaste.

What I’m most excited about is to finally have a place to fix my bougatsa cravings (a sweet custard filled pie) in Cologne - I love this Greek treat. Other savory pie options are also available (spinach, feta, minced meat). The pies are served warm and are homemade apparently. Overall good in flavor and quality, but the pies could benefit from less and thinner dough.

As for the sweets/cakes, most are the kind of the commercial, defrosted kind you expect to find at a donut parlor. A missed opportunity really, given the yum pastries are on a different level, but let’s keep in mind this is a franchise after all.

In short, a welcome addition bringing some Greek vibes to Cologne. But certainly a few improvement areas exist. Here is hoping...

Endlich! Griechischer Kaffee in Köln – und zwar richtig guter! Ich bin absolut verliebt in den Frappe Cappuccino – so wie ich ihn aus Griechenland kenne, und das Beste: hier gibt’s ihn sogar mit Hafermilch, ganz ohne Aufpreis. Veganer Traum! Für mich ein echtes Highlight!

Der Laden ist super gemütlich, mit liebevollen Farben und einer Atmosphäre, in der man sich sofort wohlfühlt. Die Mitarbeiter*innen sind herzlich, aufmerksam und immer gut drauf. Man merkt einfach, dass hier mit Leidenschaft gearbeitet wird.

Besonders schön: die Möglichkeit, draußen zu sitzen – gerade wenn in Ehrenfeld die Sonne scheint, ist das der perfekte Spot, um kurz dem Alltag zu entfliehen.
