Sadaf — Restaurant in Cologne

Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was really unpleasant. They only accept cash, which doesn't translate to lower prices; in fact, their prices are the same but with lower quality compared to Persian restaurants, which accept EC cards.

When we, a group of four, tried to order three main dishes and one starter (which was also expensive), the owner insisted we order four main dishes without providing any explanation. Despite our inquiry, he simply stated, "It's my restaurant, my rule!" and claimed the exceptional quality of his food.

Hungry and eager, we reluctantly tried their food, only to find it did not live up to the owner's claims. The Juje kabab was dry and below average, while the Mahiche was also dry and mediocre. The only dish that stood out was the Kabab Kubide.

What truly frustrated us was observing two other tables, each with two guests, being allowed to order just one main dish and one starter. This inconsistency in enforcing rules confused us.

To add insult to injury: the final bill including 19% VAT but unable to pay with a card !?

This restaurant is truly one of the best in the world. The design feels like the cozy home of an Iranian hostess—it gives off more of a warm dinner party vibe than a typical restaurant, and I absolutely loved that.

The family running the place was incredibly kind—from the lady working in the dining area to her son, who was in the kitchen cooking (he even came out to greet me and say welcome, which was such a lovely gesture).

We tried almost every dish, and each one was more delicious than the last.

The starters were served with freshly baked barbari bread, which I really enjoyed.

And please, please try their homemade doogh—it was fantastic!

Jedes Gericht war meisterhaft zubereitet, mit frischen Zutaten und einer Präsentation, die sowohl ansprechend als auch anspruchsvoll war.

Die Speisekarte bietet eine umfangreiche Auswahl an verschiedenen Köstlichkeiten, von zarten Grillgerichten bis hin zu aromatischen Eintöpfen und unwiderstehlichen Desserts. Es ist schwer, sich für nur ein Gericht zu entscheiden, da alle so verlockend klingen. Die Portionen sind großzügig bemessen, und man merkt, dass hier echte Leidenschaft in die Zubereitung gesteckt wird.

Ein besonderer Pluspunkt, der das Restaurant Sadaf von anderen Lokalen abhebt, ist zweifellos der Chef selbst. Er ist nicht nur ein herausragender Koch, sondern auch ein äußerst liebenswürdiger Gastgeber. Bei jedem meiner Besuche wurde ich herzlich empfangen und fühlte mich sofort willkommen. Der Chef nimmt sich Zeit, um mit den Gästen zu plaudern und sicherzustellen, dass jeder einen angenehmen Aufenthalt hat.
