Sant' Angelo - Trattoria & Bar — Restaurant in Cologne

Do not order "carbonara". This is definitely not the best Italian restaurant around, not even close to being a good Italian restaurant. First of all, they serve a cream based pasta with pancetta, -spring onions- and they call it a "carbonara". It takes a lot of effort to turn a simple, classic pasta dish into this tourist food. I have a lot of words for that but limited characters for this review. Someone call @italiansmadatfood. Pesto definitely tastes like Barilla pesto and I'm certain it is. The only acceptable thing was Bolognese's tomato sauce. Portions are huge, I don't know if that's a plus or minus for you. Decoration is very very outdated. And not even like authentic Italian restaurant outdated, it's a mix of everything. Service and waiters? Well, that's another story but not a good one. After having eaten multiple times here I wanted to finally leave a review.

I try to nearly always order a different dish to always try some new. Therefor I leave it to the staff of Sant’ Angelo to bring me every time something new and so far it has never been less than delicious! Grazie!

It is true, that the restaurant is noisy and the service sometimes takes a bit, but keep in mind that this is a small, but always packed family run restaurant. The noise is what I particularly like because it feels like Italy - I don’t want a silent restaurant visit (well, if then I know to go elsewhere). The staff is always friendly, takes a moment to chat, answer all questions regarding the food and goes the extra mile if you give them a chance.

I will of course be back for more. In short: You want great pasta? Italian noisy...

I recommend this authentic Italian Restaurant and Bar in Cologne (Koln)Germany. The chefs, barista and servers/staff are all wonderful,friendly and accommodating. We were in Cologne for two weeks in September 2019 and during all our time there, we had the pleasure to eat at this restaurant frequently....we absolutely loved all their Italian dishes recommendations, it was the best eating experience we ever had!
