Note that it is cash only - there are several nearby ATMs though, so it’s not a problem if you forget. The communal menu is a fantastic idea so that you can try numerous dishes. All of the food was genuinely wonderful - but be warned that even the “mini communal” is still a TON of food. The waiter seemed very disturbed by the amount of food we were wasting (and we didn’t disagree nor were we offended by his reaction), but we didn’t have a fridge or microwave in our room, so couldn’t take it to go. The cocktails were also spectacular. The waiter was also great in that we said we only wanted 1 dessert (between the 2 of us) because we were so full, so he offered an espresso in place of 1 (as the menu came with a dessert per person) - this was perfect and much appreciated. My only real complaint is that we asked for tap water, but got it in a bottle - which I thought was just tap water because I don’t think it was sealed (though I’m not sure)…. And they charged €6.50. That was the only off-putting thing about the experience. Everything else was wonderful, and I would...
Read moreWe were there for a spontaneous dinner. We were explained how the concept works: you order a certain amount of small dishes, tapas style. While we really liked how invested the staff seemed in the concept of their restaurant and highly spirited on a Saturday evening, the food did not really match up.
We ordered from the seasonal as well as from the weekly menu. Unfortunately we were a little bit disappointed by the taste. A lot of blant tastes or not very well combined seasonings. We were told the cuisine is inspired by the Indian cuisines but it was only a resemblance of spicy Indian dishes.
FYI, you should have cash on you shen you go here since the restaurant does not accept card payments.
All in all we would not recommend this place since we really think that there's not put enough thought into the menu. Then again, other people seemed to like the taste of food, so maybe this is just our...
Read moreThe service was okay but the male waiter stopped his co-workers from processing our 2 additional samoosas saying we cannot order more as we cannot take any food away. We explained that we are not planning to take anything home but need 2 additional samoosas so we can each have 1 but he only placed the order once we finished dining and were ready to leave.
But the most disappointing thing was that there is nothing much on the menu which is an authentic South African cuisine. Their pap is over powered by herbs and tastes nothing like pap. The Boerewors Frikkadels with chutney reminded me a bit of S.A but they were on the dry side. We thought a South African restaurant would be great to celebrate my birthday but it was the contrary.
You cannot have a South African restaurant without proper pap and wors perhaps with...
