This is a Mallu restaurant. We went with high hopes only to get disappointed. I was willing to cut slack for the lack of staff or delay in getting the food ( which is 1.5hours and nearly cost us to miss our bus back to another city) but their pricing is a complete rip off for what they offer.
I understand running a restaurant comes with a lot of challenges but this is not the way to do business.
We ordered Kulukki sarbat which was basically lime juice in soda water with chilli and chia. There was no sarbat in the sarbat if you know you know. Charged at 3.90.
We ordered water still ( they brought it in a glass, don't know if it was tap water, no bottle, no label) and charged 2.70.
We ordered a starter, luckily it was one bonda, they charged 2.40, and it came after main course. They gave chutney when requested.
The biggest ripoff was fish curry meals. In the menu it is written 'Kerala Housewife' as the name of a dish. Well I am not stepping into the objectified title of the dish. That's a discussion for another day. It was written 13.90 for the food in the menu with fish and while ordering we asked what exactly do we get with it, he said fish curry and fish fry. Not even once he mentioned that it is seperately chargeable. We all are equally grinding here and making things work in a foreign land. They charged us 22.90 for fish curry meals. The only good thing about the meal was the gulab jamun. It is not about paying 23 for a meal. This was not even good for half the price. The food had a ridiculous amount of potatoes in various shapes and forms. The meal only had the std of a govt hospital canteen where everything tastes more or less the same.
The next was malabar biriyani. Some random rice in yellow color came with tons of spices ( cinnamon and star anise in exorbitant amount). It didn't have enough salt. The least expected part was the jeerakashala rice, well it wasn't there. There were two small chicken pieces and an egg. It costs 13.90.
Two appam and veg stew was charged at 13.90. Appam was good and stew again had so much of spice sting on it. We were afraid to order more as we had a bus to catch because the next appam would have easily taken 45 minutes. So we called it a day.
After 1.5 hours of waiting, hunger itself was good food for us.
Anyway if you plan to improve please be honest with your pricing. If you have the argument that you are primarily catering your food for German people at least have the efficiency of German restaurant with regards to time.
If you are catering for Indians and plan to deliver according to Indian standard time, at least have the mercy to have a menu in English and price it honestly.
TL:DR If you have nothing to do on a particular day and love waiting for mallu food and get surprised by the bill this place is...
Read moreI have been now going to this place regularly since a few months and i must say the consistency in service is something to be appreciated. I have tried almost all the dishes and would even recommend to my friends and we visit also regulary here. special mention to the owner for managing with the other guys especially during weekends. Their biriyani varieties as well as the fish and porotta beef ullarthyath are really good. As a person coming from Kerala, i do not miss the food nowadays as everything is available here now.
But I do see a lot of negative comments and reviews. Sometimes the place do gets crowded and the whole tables would be filled but that does not mean the people working there are inefficient. I have seen people not having the patience to wait for food that is being prepared with such dedication and effort. Good food takes its own time and when you come to such a place for dining , I would say they atleast deserve the respect for their effort. It is just unbelievable what some people write as reviews.
one may be having a train to catch or some other appoinments. To all the people with such silly reasons, it would be better if they could be at home and cook the food according to how they want.
Sometimes we people do not think the impact we bring upon people by putting such reviews. There are places that people go to nowadays solely based on customer reviews and its still sad people always try to find the faults in an establishment.
Try to make constructive criticism rather than destroying some peoples only source of livelihood. It does not cost much for us to treat others or their effort with basic...
Read moreMy my!! What do I say here..?! Just spell bound. 🤯
Being an Indian (Malayali to be specific) I was not searching but "hunting" for an authentic Indian restaurant in Dortmund. (Apparently most of the so called Indian restaurants serve Sri Lankan dishes!) 🤪
And thus I came across Dixon's kitchen. Thanks to Google search. After coming to Dortmund I always wanted to go explore the dishes here but thanks to Corona 🥲 for spoiling it and prolonging it for 1 year and 3 months and finally I was here.
Cutting short the story - The dishes were just superb. The first go, I wanted fishing polichadhu 🐟 and unfortunately we didn't know we had to 'pre-order' this particular dish. So we settled with porotta and beef (the typical Kerala style combo) 🤤 I must say this - it was just too good. A bit spicy (this can be adjusted to an extent by telling them while ordering!) but authentic.
The next time visiting, I made it a point to pre order the fish polichadhu. Oh man, I just loved it. It tasted too good. The comparisons are to that of the foods that a typical Indian eats in a foreign land (and eventually is fed up, longing for native foods! 😬 So, it was that and then prawn fried 🍤 along with Kappa (Tapioca) + fish curry. The later 2 dishes were just okay but not bad.
What I liked the best about this restaurant is, they use authentic spices (from Kerala) and so there's no compromise of the taste. It's a must try for every person whose a food lover, especially a Malayali whose craving for native taste. Also, it's better to book up reservation in prior. I can assure there's no disappointment with...
