We did not enjoy Au Quai/Am Kai at all. In fact its one of our worst experiences of “fine dining”.

Lets start with the food. We took the tasting menu which consisted of 5 dishes:

2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert.

The starters (“amuse gueule” and the yellowfin tuna) were not bad. In fact we later dound out they were the best part of the meal.

From there we got to the bouillabaisse - that dish was way too salty, with a broth that we could not eat. 5 pieces of fish (one of each kind) and thats it. We left it as is.

The other starter was the cod. While the cod was presented nicely (picture attached) it lacked any taste whatsoever. Tasted quite dull. The jerusalem artichoke creme and fennel were also very salty. We ate it only because we were hungry.

The dessert was a chocolate fondant. Not different to the one you would get in the local italian restaurant. Average by all means.

From here we go to the service:

Not taking plates after theyre finished and bringing in new plates.

Water pitcher that was left empty and on the table for 30 minutes before someone took it.

Waiters unorganized, we got the desserts menu despite us ordering a tasting menu.

Napkin that was taken from my wife (maybe it was dirty?) and not returned - so she used mine for the rest of the bill.

10 minutes to wait for the bill after sitting in the restaurant for 3 hours (theres a long waiting time between the dishes).

And to top it all of, I have never ever been in a restaurant that charges €8 for water and its not even bottled! Came out of a “beer tap” into a pitcher. Filtered water? Not sure.

The only bright side of the night was the bartender, the only person in the team that identified thing’s proactively and made it a little less terrible experience.

Paying €200 for the food and service is not justifiable. You ruined my wifes birthday. Dishes that are presented nicely is not enough, they need to taste good as...

Diese Bewertung besteht aus zwei Bestandteilen. Auf der einen Seite das Restaurant mit Speisen und Getränken und auf der anderen Seite das Au Quai als Eventlocation.

Restaurant. Wir waren zu Zweit im Au Quai. Wir hatten eine Reservierung. Wäre an dem Abend (einem Donnerstag) nicht unbedingt notwendig gewesen. Nettes und zuvorkommendes Personal hat uns in Empfang genommen. Aperitif, Wein (aus einer gut sortierten Karte), Vorspeise und Hauotgang ausgewählt und bestellt. Der Aperitif wurde schnell serviert. Die Gerichte in angemessenen Abständen zum Tisch gebracht und das Weinglas war nie leer. Preis-Leistung war aufgrund der Lage und des Ambientes angemessen. Die Lage und das Ambiente zahlt man schließlich mit.

Eventlocation. Wir waren für unsere Hochzeit auf der Suche nach einer Location. Nachdem wir uns mehrere - auch an der Außenalster - angesehen haben, haben wir schnell ein Gefühl dafür bekommen, was wir wollen. Ein Mix aus einer tollen Lage, einem guten Gefühl bei Gesprächen mit dem Veranstalter, einem schönen reduzierten und rustikalen, aber dennoch stilvollen Ambiente und gute Küche. Kein Catering aus Metallbehältnissen. Diese ganzen Punkte hat das Au Quai bedienen können.

Der Abend wurde von der Hauseigenen Eventplanerin Natascha gut organisiert. Sie gab viele Hilfestellungen, damit das Brautpaar an viele wichtige Rahmenbedingungen denkt. Manchmal minimal zu routiniert. Schließlich hat sie viele Events organisiert. Für uns war es die erste eigene Hochzeit :)

Der Abend startete mit einem Aperitif. Bellini, Cremant und zur Sicherheit Bier von Faß. Am Anfang wurde nur der Bellini verteilt. Nach Bier und Cremant musste gefragt werden. Das geht besser. In Richtung erster von vier Gängen hat das Personal nicht mehr pro-aktiv nachgeschenkt. Auch hier kann nachgebessert werden.

Die vier Gänge, die wir in Vorgesprächen ausgewählt haben, begleitet von einem roten und einem weißen Wein sowie Bier auf Wunsch, waren wir erwartet sehr gut. Auch die Weine bedienten den allgemeinen Geschmack. Das Personal hat sich gut gekümmert. Schnell serviert und Getränke nachgefüllt. Natürlich nicht immer rechtzeitig nachgeschenkt. Begründet durch die 60 Gäste. Eine weitere Person im Service ist empfehlenswert.

In Richtig Party wurde schnell abgeräumt und wir haben den Raum gewechselt. Die Bar war eröffnet. Am Anfang mit zu warmen Getränken. Die hätten vorgekühlt werden müssen. Später waren sie Kühler.

Ich glaube es reicht im Fazit zu schreiben, dass wir 3 drei Mal um eine Stunde verlängert haben. Es war ein toller Abend. Die Gäste hatten durchweg Spaß und fühlten sich gut...

We have very much enjoyed our dinner at ‘Am Kai’. With a beautiful summer evening and outside heating provided later in the evening, this modern, trendy and chic restaurant provided a great atmosphere. The terrace is viewing the river Elbe and the harbor of Hamburg. Food was absolutely delicious! Style and taste are modern, surprising and every moment pleasing. We ordered (family style) swordfish ceviche and beef tartar followed by ravioli topped with truffle. As a main we shared the seafood platter with some sides. We loved their wine and champagne recommendation. Service was outstandingly friendly, a nice touch of a personal note included with all recommendations hitting our taste. All in all, this trendy chic location, quality of seafood and fish combined with the lovely service, it is now one of our top favorite...
