Atelier F — Restaurant in Hamburg

We were very impressed with the location and design of this place. We planned to have some food and plenty of drinks. We ordered our drinks and asked for soda and fresh lemon juice on the side. The waiter informed us, "We don't have fresh lemon juice." Initially, I absent-mindedly said, "Okay." Then I thought, "How can a restaurant not have fresh lemon juice?" When the waiter returned, I asked, "Do you not have any lemons?" The waiter seemed confused and couldn't answer. I pointed out, "You must have lemons because you serve salads here." He confirmed, "Yes, we do." I replied, "If you have lemons, that means you have fresh lemon juice." He responded, "I can bring you the lemon, and you can squeeze it yourself." I said, "Fine, bring the lemon, and I'll squeeze it myself," and I did.

It shouldn't be so difficult to squeeze one lemon in the kitchen using a lemon squeezer! It's as if the staff is being forced to work there. If you're not happy with your job, don't do it. Or, even worse, maybe this person was being discriminatory and treating us this way because we're foreigners. In any case, it's disappointing to see staff behavior that doesn't match the quality of the venue and location....

A huge choice of various classical French and American dishes, such as burgers, steaks, quiche, onion soup, mussels, tartare, escargots, Flammkuchen. . .

For its very central and posh location, it is reasonably priced.

We didn’t have reservations and arrived at what seems like the calm after a big weekend lunch/brunch period. So the staff was a little stressed out at first, but we did eventually get our table and all was good.

I took the black bean burger. The pattie was a little too dry, I think the recipe needs some work. The guacamole on it was good, the bread nothing too special. I tasted fine overall, but I’d definitely take another item from the menu if I come back (eg the salad looked better).

As the burgers come as they are, you have to order from a big selection of side dishes. We had sweet potato fries, truffle fries and I took a serving of spinach with onion and tomato (very good!). The French fries are served as a pretty big portion, good to share, too much for one I think.

Coffee is from Nespresso, so nothing to shout about for a coffee amateur like me, but...

I think this has got to be the worst service I experienced. We do not speak German and we came in a bit confused naturally asking about the seating and he was super rude and we decided not to react and to go where he told us and as he muttered a German word not in the kindest tone but yet again we didn’t assume anything and decided to carry on. We sat outside waiting for someone to come to take our order but no one would come and when we called for someone they just did a hand gesture and ignored us. At this point I was livid I went inside to personally call for someone and as i walked in one of the people who worked there saw me and as soon as I told him excuse me he literally sped walked away from me muttering another German word I don’t understand. I then saw another server annd when I approached him, he sped walked as well with an extremely rude attitude at the same time screaming “one second” while making exaggerated hand movements. I left immediately....
