Introduction: I entered the restaurant to join a friend that booked a table there. The restaurant was packed and I couldn't find her so I went to ask a waiter if he would help me finding her and he answered with a condescending "We don't speak english here !"... ah ok... good to know, I didn't know such big franchises wouldn't care about international clients in it or would have a staff that talk to them that way. Guess what, I tried to speak italian with your staff but apparently the one I talked with didn't speak italian. No help given, good start.
For the global context : The first thing to notice when you enter in this large restaurant is this amazing feeling to be located in a factory : Super loud place, probably not the best place for a nice date before going to the Opera next to it. The waiters must be forced to be running and super fast to make sure the clients turnover is over-the-roof at each second They have the "be fast at Every second" syndrom, meaning you can just be trying to calmly enjoy your food, the atmosphere is so fast-paced because the waiters are running around all the time that you just possibly can't. All tables must be sprayed and cleaned at each second. But while they are fast to bring the menu and take order then you can wait 20 minutes to receive your drinks, a bottled lemonade (modestly sold at 5€) and a basic juice in a glass. 20 minutes to deliver a bottled drink is amazing, especially when you see all that "excitement" from the waiters side.
What is really misleadingly is they are slow to bring us our overpriced drinks but in the meantime very fast to come interrupt us at our table as soon as my friend finished eating her dish to clean her plate while I was still eating and talking to my friend. I am used to restaurants where waiters only interrupt to make sure everything is ok, which they never did. They were also very fast to bring you the bill and then again very slow to take the time to very carefully explain how to correctly put their tip in case you don't know how to read a credit card machine or different percentages.
Now for the food : They serve a Rucola pizza that is made of thin pizza bread and 500g of dried rucola they dumped on top of it and served it without oil 🤔🤔 I asked one of the waiters to bring oil and he said "ok" and then left the table without bringing it. And 15 minutes later, I was seeing him a bit further sorting chairs and setting tables... Ok so why don't you ask another waiter to come to serve the table if you are supposed to just set tables and don't want to bring us oil that should have been there since the beginning ? I ordered a Prosciutto crudo and it's basically thin pizza bread with litterally a coffee spoon of tomato sauce and 4 super thin slices of prosciutto, the mozza on it was non-existent and was not even real mozzarella (industrial artificial lookalike) Honestly, the only thing I could taste was the super thin pizza bread. But I have to admit, their pizza bread is quite good.
Overpriced for such a service under par.
That restaurant is lucky to benefit from the clients and traffic from the Staatsoper next to it but I guess that's precisely why they opened it there.
"Low-price" for the pizza at 15€ ? Sure, but it must have something to do with the small amount and low-quality ingredients used on top of the plain pizza bread.
Such a big franchise could have a staff that speaks at least english, or if not, a staff that cares about helping its clients and properly serving them without roughly...
Read morePrice for food was quite reasonable, but we ran into a couple organizational issues, even as German speakers. We visited on a Saturday evening about 20:30 and had a short wait of about 10 minutes for a table. After another 5-10 minutes the waiter (mentally) took our drink and food order. We received our Antipasti but the order was incorrect both in what we received and the quantity. We did tell the waiter that one dish was incorrect but did not tell him that he also brought an additional order of another antipasti that we did not want. We then waited another 20 minutes until one of us received our main dish, and then it took another 15-20 minutes for the other to receive their main dish. The group next to us were also unhappy as half had eaten part of their pastas and were still waiting for their companion’s pizzas. This is a really unacceptable kitchen timing issue for which there was no apology or compensation when pointed out. Once the Ragu alla Bolognese arrived it was a disappointment as it was with absolutely no discernible pieces of meat; very different than anything we had in Bologna. When we later asked for the bill, our waiter said he would “immediately” bring it, and then we witnessed him bus two large tables (for which no patrons were waiting), and then immediately seat, give menus to, take drink orders from, socialize with, and bring antipasti to a newly arriving mid-sized group next to us before disappearing. It got to the point of waiting that we tallied up our bill and were planning on just leaving the cash on the table when I believe he spied us preparing to leave and hurried over. When he asked us about our meal I explained it was a problem with the timing for the mains, to which he argued the timeline, so I then also let him know our antipasti order was also incorrect in two areas, which he also argued with. Perhaps if he had initially written it down, at least one of these issues would have been avoided. It really seemed as though the staff were short-handed, based off of our waiter’s behavior, for which I again look to poor management/leadership (along with the poor kitchen timing). Would we ever come back? Probably not, as we’ve had problems at other L’Osteria chain locations as well. As a note on payment, if more than one person is paying, bring cash because we weren’t allowed to split card payments on one tab. Also, we didn’t mind the loud and lively atmosphere inside, but it might bother some or be difficult for those with...
Read moreFirst of all, we wanted to go eat dinner on Eastern Friday and we went to the restaurant around 16 o'clock to book dinner for the evening and waitress said it is not necessary and they don't take reservations for the same day anymore. But at this moment, restaurant was already full of people and we were worried we wont get a table later anymore. So I decided to book a table via their website and oh it was a good idea that I did this.....because restaurant was at 20.30 fully booked and there would have been no chance for us to get a table without it. So it shows actually very poor and inconsiderate service.
Then we were seated, service was poor I would say as one of the drinks was forgotten at first and we were not asked during eating how we are doing. Also, we received food very very fast which was a bit suspicious as the restaurant was full of people. Both of our pasta dishes looked a bit as they had been prepared and then forgotten and then heated up. For that price, I expected more. Even tho taste was okay and portions were very big so that's good. Also dessert with two small options was great, we had tiramisu and panna cotta but tiramisu was not good. It was only cream basically without any cookies inbetween and the cream was not creamy, more like melted ice cream, too liquidish.
Bathrooms were of awful conditions in the restaurant - there was no toilet paper and it was a mess. So, all in all, I don't think I would go again. Atmosphere was very loud and it was so hot in there with tables very close...
