Overall this is a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere is nice, though I found the low seat I was placed at a bit uncomfortable after a while (most tables had better seating).
Food was freshly made. The cheddar scones were delicious. The key lime pie was a let down with just the tiniest hint of lime flavour in only a few bites. I'll try something else next time as everything looked delicious, and that's not really a British specialty after all. Tea was delicious, though it arrived just warm, so it was quite cool before I finished the pot. It would be lovely if it started really hot.
Things to know (all clearly stated on the website, but that's in German and I suppose English speakers might enjoy this place): You need a reservation. You can just reserve a table and then order a la cart (tea, two cheddar scones and a slice of pie came to 23 euro for reference) or pre order/book a full tea (two choices). Either way you'll have your table for a maximum of two hours. This is stated multiple times during the reservation process. I think that's plenty of time but some people seem upset and surprised by this in other reviews. You're instructed to arrive on time, but not early and wait outside by the red ropes when you arrive. Someone will come out and fetch you at your reserved time. This is a bit weird and controlling (it was threatening rain when I arrived five minutes before my reservation, I was relieved the rain didn't actually begin until I had been fetched)
I'll definitely go back as it was a overall a very...
Read morewe were thrilled to discover this place with treasures from our second home. then we went in. unfortunately we were neither acknowledged, greeted, or provided with a menu. we aren’t stick thin, so using one of the tables along the bench in the very pretty set-up in the back proved rather impractical to get into without disturbing other guests, and after waiting for almost a quarter of an hour for someone to approach and not being able to try the afternoon tea as we hadn‘t reserved three days in advance, we ended up going somewhere else. A shame, we liked the idea.
Post reponse addition: thank you for your reponse, Mr Schroder and Mr da Silva Olieviera. We can understand the restrictions of having small premises, unfortunately the combination of actions required of customers in order to be able to enjoy a stay (reserve, see the sign, wait to be seated, and address problems in person) is, in our view, too high a burden on customers. Several servers walked past us after we were seated, it would have been easy to spot us, as, as you mention, the Café is not huge. Thank you anyway. We wish you...
Read moreWe had a voucher for an Afternoon Tea at Eaton Place, and on arrival we were met by a friendly lady who took us to our seats. The ambience and atmosphere was very British and almost over the top, but this added to the whole experience. As an afternoon tea "newbie", the lady explained the process and tea cups and a fully laden cake stand was served up very quickly. The bottom being finger sandwiches, the middle being the classic scones with clotted cream and jam, top being petit four cakes. The quality of the food was excellent and the presentation exceptional. We followed the tea recommendation and even ordered 3 extra blends of tea (out of 36 on the menu). Our dog was also given refreshments, compliments of the house ! The whole experience was very memorable, the service perfect and refreshments of the highest quality. The only downside was that inside the tea rooms, it is quite small and compact and with the high number of visitors, it can feel a little cramped. You will need to reserve a table well in advance but we can only highly recommend all aspects of...
