A total cat-astrophe!
We visited the "Katzentempel" on a Saturday. When we first arrived, we were turned away very unfriendly with the words "No reservation? No chance!" However, a quick check on OpenTable showed that the entire day was still available at the "Temple." So we booked a table in 15 minutes, walked around the block once, and stood in front of a visibly confused but defeated waitress with our reservation.
Unfortunately, we didn't know what to expect after our little ruse. The waitress was rather unfriendly at first, but I could understand why. Who likes to be confronted with their own incompetence in a service job? So we tolerated the angry face and ordered coffee, cocoa, water, cake, a bowl, and a burger. Then nothing happened for 30 minutes.
When the coffee finally made its way to our table, it was unfortunately only lukewarm. Much worse, however, was that almost all of the dishes and cutlery were dirty. The glasses were greasy, there were crumbs on the saucers, and there were unidentifiable residues floating in the water carafe that certainly did not belong in sparkling water. Although our glasses were replaced after we pointed this out to the wait staff, the new glasses were also dirty. Even a third attempt only brought us smudged glasses again, this time at dishwasher temperature. We gave up and ordered cola and lemonade, which we drank straight from the bottle.
The only two waiters seemed completely overwhelmed by the entire café. To be fair, I think they could easily have done with two more waiters. After the guests had left their tables, the cats tucked into the leftovers in several places. The waiters simply couldn't serve the guests quickly enough and clear the tables at the same time. Combined with the obviously overwhelmed dishwasher, the cats licking the mayo bowls and plates with relish left us with a very uneasy feeling.
Understandably, we were not particularly enthusiastic when our food arrived. Here, too, the burger and coffee had already cooled down. The bowl was already cold, which was to the waiters' advantage. As I bit into my burger and dipped my fries in the mayonnaise, however, I couldn't get the image of the "sweet tooth cats" out of my head—and I completely lost my appetite. The food wasn't exactly a revelation, but I might have eaten it anyway. Instead, the burger was abandoned after three bites, and my girlfriend only ate half of her bowl.
Overall, it can be said that there is definitely potential here, but the café is hopelessly understaffed. We hope that we have survived the visit without food poisoning, but we will certainly not be setting foot in this...
Read moreI went to this Café with my sisters and upon ordering informed the waitress that i wanted Ketchup instead of vegan Mayo on my burger. When we received the food there was a different Type of Sauce on the Burger, Not Sure exactly what Kind was on the Burger but it was Not Ketchup so i asked the waitress If the kitchen could redo it, as mistakes happen. She took it and came Back about 5 minutes later with a small dish of Ketchup and Said that the kitchen wouldnt (or couldnt) redo it and that i could wipe IT Off myself with a napkin and Put the Ketchup myself so i wouldnt taste the other Sauce (what??). This was Not acceptable to me because 1) i informed the staff of the Special request beforehand, and 2) wiping IT Off with a napkin wont remove the sauce soaked into the bread. I told her that i Would prefer Not to eat at all, and that she could throw it away (so she did). Afterwards when paying they still wanted to charge me For my Burger that i didnt Take one single bite of. The waitress Had an attitude as well saying that its my Problem since i Chose to throw it away, the Restaurant still Made the food so i Had to Pay even If i didnt eat it (according to German Gastronomy contract rules this isnt allowed by the way, since i asked to have it corrected and they couldnt or wouldnt i can "step Back" from the contract). I HAD TO ask For the Manager and the waitress rolled her eyes and Said fine and left. Finally she came Back and Said it was removed and we paid. Upon leaving someone (i believe from the kitchen) came Out and complained/told US off that we should have Said we wanted Ketchup before ordering and Not after. I DID!! The only good Service we Had at this place was the Person at the Front door greetings us who was very welcoming. Otherwise the customer Service Here Is quite literally the worst I personally have ever experienced. It really ruined the whole "Cat Cafe" experience so we will never...
Read moreI've been wanting to visit this place for some time now since it is the only Cat Café in Hamburg. I am a cat lover and knowing that the resident cats in this cafe were all rescued and came from animal welfare organizations, brings me a lot of joy and happiness.
When you enter the Café, you are greeted immediately by a very nice staff. The interior is a cat haven, with enough space for cats to roam around, shelves where they are free to rest and play, and enough spaces to interact with customers. The cats looked like they were very relaxed. Some of them were even just sleeping in their nooks, unbothered, and having a good nap. There was a particular cat that caught my attention and her name was Marsi. She is very adorable, sweet & calm, and lets you pet her.
Their coffee tastes good and I liked the carrot cake a lot. It was served on a plate with a cute pawprint, that melted my heart ❤️ The carrot cake wasn't too sweet and had the right balance of taste. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend Katzentemple to anyone, especially to those...
