Marsbar — Restaurant in Hamburg

Had dinner here last night with my wife. This place has a sentimental connection as one of our first dates was here 10+ years back. We also lived for years nearby within a couple hundred meters. Used to stop in here now and again but always sat outside and quality dropped about five years back. Decided to go again, as a friend in the neighborhood whom we visit here and again said they renovated the restaurant during CoVID. I have to say we had a great dinner. Everything was super tasty. Menu has a good selection and I for example had the steak tartare which was different but in a great way. My wife had a teriyaki burger which also was really good. The appetizer salad with camembert was a treat. Most importantly though, we had disliked the service at the tail end of our time living in the area. Yesterday, staff was wonderful. Everyone said hello as we came in, and even folks behind the bar made an effort to greet us coming by. We had a couple people serve at the table and everyone was lovely. FOOD WAS GREAT! SERVICE WAS THE WORST! They served us a dish we did not order. Instead of apologizing for the mishap, the waitress just dismissed our remark and simply said that the one we wanted was not available! She did not even ask if we’d wish to take something else instead. And when the bill came, they of course charged us a wrong price. When we pointed this out, AGAIN, THEY DID NOT APOLOGIZE!

Yes, customers are NOT ALWAYS right. But please, if you (service personnel) know you’re in the wrong, please acknowledge that...

Die Marsbar ist ein netter kleiner Laden (manchmal mehr Bar, machmal mehr Restaurant - angenehm) der wenn man das Eppendorfer Publikum mag oder darüber hinweg sehen kann sehr überzeugend ist. Das Personal ist aufmerksam, schnell und kompetent für Speisen und die dazugehörigen Getränke. Wenns voll ist kann es mal ein bischen dauern, aber das wird mit einem charmanten kleinen Witz vom Personal erklärt und mit einen Auffüllen des Weinglases wieder gut gemacht. Perfekter Service. Schön finde ich, dass die Karte jeden Tag neu geschrieben wird - somit ist's immer frisch. Die Übersichtlichkeit in der Auswahl lässt darauf schliessen, dass man sich hier nicht mit 1.000 Gerichten verzetteln will sonder das was man anbietet auch gut macht. So soll's sein! Die Weinkarte ist der Saison immer angepasst und es war für mich immer was passendes dabei. Das Team zwischen Küche (offen - man kann sehen was gekocht wird/sich manchmal auch was vom Koch empfhlen lassen oder abgucken), Tresen und Service funktioniert gut und der Chef des Hauses unterhält zuweilen schon mal das Tresenpublikum mit amüsanten Anekdoten aus dem Gastronomieleben - springt aber auch mal mit helfender Hand ein wenn es sein muss.
