I was super excited to visit this quaint ramen bar on my first trip to Karlsruhe! They did not disappoint, great friendly service even while they were packed! I appreciate them asking if we’d like to speak German or English as we kept switching between the two 😅. I ordered the Riesling, Miso ramen with chasu (with a side of chili oil), pan fried gyoza, and crispy karrage. My friend ordered the Shoyu ramen with chasu. Everything was delicious and well prepared, the miso ramen had a nice light flavor and the noodles were tender but not mushy and the tamago was so yummy 😋. I tried my friend’s Shoyu and it was so rich and had that amazing umami taste! The gyoza was so juicy, delicious, and flavourful, alone and with the dumpling sauce! But my absolute favourite and the main reason I’m leaving a review, the KARRAGE!!! Any time I travel I’m always looking at all the ramen spots in the area and attempt to try them all! This one has the best karrage I’ve tasted since moving to Germany a few years ago! It was crispy on the outside and so so tender and juicy on the inside and seasoned to perfection 👌🏾👌🏾🤤. It’s plated with a tiny seaweed salad and lightly drizzled with aioli. When I visit again I’m coming back here 🙌🏾, thank you!!! I wish I got more photos but I was too deep in...
Read moreIt’s a pretty good Ramen. Can’t complain about the taste, although I do wonder whether they make the broth themselves. The noodles were great one time, a little overcooked the previous visit. The meat portion is small by default - only one slice of pork on the smaller Ramen. I like that they actually use the proper type of pork with fat and not lean pieces like some other Ramen restaurants in Europe. You can order more meat slices if you want, but you can’t know beforehand since three are default in Japan and this is what I expected. This should be written on the menu, in my opinion. Also the first time I ordered the Ramen, it could have been hotter.
The service is good but not as attentive and professional as in Japan. One of the servers left the plate at the edge of the table and left. I did very much like that my complaints were taken seriously and reasons were given for why things are done a certain way. I can adjust my order now to get what I expect.
All in all it’s not as great as in Japan but still a good Ramen restaurant and I will...
Read moreWe drive about an hour there every year for my birthday, just to go there.
The food and the atmosphere is wonderful. My mother who is vegetarian (but also loves vegan food) finds something to eat as well with their Poké bowls and tofu options.
If you've only ever had take-out ramen before, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You will leave feeling full and satisfied. And if you want a dessert or drink, they offer mochi, home-made lemonade and even Japanese beer. Can recommend it all.
The only other advice I would give you, from someone who can eat a lot, believe me you don't need the bigger portions. The small ramen portion is extremely filling in a good way. We sometimes have a hard time finishing even that.
When I go there again in September, I might add...
