As a South Texas native implanted into Germany for the last 10 years I have been missing bbq I have tried a number of places from Mannheim and other various places within Germany and it was always very disappointing when the cook tells you they first boil the meat then try to grill it......it don't work then on a whim my wifes friend told us about "the last meal" so we drove the 47 min (30min if you use speed limits as a suggestion not a rule) the location is really nice parking might be scarce but even at 1830 found a spot on the road nearby but if you decide to stay right next door is a motel one i will be staying at next time cause the food...now lets get to the food.....
We had a holy trinity (brisket....pulled pork.....half rack of ribs..) the wife had "the birdie" (4 wings, buttermilk tenders, smoked turkey) sides where Mac and cheese, potatoes and gravy, and coleslaw...the brisket was tender and juicy and the fact you could see a very prominent smoke ring I knew this was going to be good....the ribs where very flavourful with a sweet apple sauce under the ribs i was surprised as the apple sauce brought a flavor to the ribs i wasnt used to very very good..the pulled pork may have been my favorite and most missed from bbq in Texas....and when i say it was savory and juicy and well seasoned I mean it.....for the wife the buttermilk chicken was so flipping good the batter used was flakey and very savory the chicken itself was not even slightly dry the hot wings were cooked to perfection crispy and still moist...the turkey was good very flavorful and as if a trend also juicy .....the mac and cheese reminded me of cookout mac and cheese with the crunchy bread crumbs and a savory cheese sauce....the mashed taters and gravy were not something im used to in germany these were just like my momma made creamy and the sauce was a very good brown sauce the coleslaw was also not a traditional german coleslaw it was 100% southern american coleslaw made with buttermilk....the house beer was a very good pils tho I can't say ive truley ever had a German beer i wasnt a fan of...I also tried the jalapeno cheddar sausage and omg next time I may only order those and some pulled pork.
The service was on point not once did I feel like we were rushed very friendly and knowledgeable staff we will 10000000% return in the near future the price was also acceptable for the quality of the food everything we got was 85€ the photo attached is a half...
Read moreWe went during the lunch service expecting BBQ but sadly were told there was no smoked meats until dinner service. Here is where i really need to compliment the service. The young lady handled our disappointment quite well even though we could not hold it back and openly discussed leaving to go eat somewhere else. Thanks to this young ladies patience and understanding (and i know its not easy answering all questions about exceptions and if there is no chance something might be ready soon etc) kicked in. With absolute grace she kept her cool and remained friendly despite the onslaught of critical comments. In the end we stayed and had fried chicken, philly cheesesteak sandwich and the smashed burger. The burger was excellent. The chicken good enough. The philly cheesesteak was good although hard to eat as it was sliced open all the way and not wrapped. This could be improved. A few YouTube vids will show how it is done properly so eating doesn’t become a disaster. After eating half the food the owner pops out with a rack of ribs for us to share, having heard of our disappointment earlier. This was a very nice gesture and highly appreciated. The ribs were tender and smothered with bbq sauce. They could have been seasoned a bit more and lacked some bark but thats details. Generally speaking they were good. We will be back to properly sample the BBQ some other day. Definitely recommend eating here. Good stuff!
PS: try the cheesecake! You...
Read moreWe made a reservation online which was super easy and were greeted very nicely in the restaurant and seated by the staff. We had some amazing starters, pork belly chunks and loaded fries are a big recommendation! The pickled onions were everything. I do regret picking the King Louis Burger over a steak bc the portion was too much meat for me to eat comfortably. I wish there was a non 200g patty option to be able to eat with your hands since pulling the burger apart with cutlery ruins the experience when I don't want to ruin my makeup with burger grease :D The mashed potatoes with gravy also were destroyed with spring onions which wasn't noted on the menu, unfortunately I couldnt enjoy it. The lemonade was very very tasty and refreshing! The staff regularly checked on us but didn't annoy us. I booked the reservation for my birthday and the staff actually took note of that and offered me a free bread pudding with a candle and a happy birthday wish on it, so generous! The atmosphere was great, music was chill and at a comfortable volume. We deeply regret forgetting completely about a generous tip, but we will definitely come back and make...
