Larry's Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Lübeck

A hidden gem in the heart of Lübeck! Larry's simply serves amazing, great quality Filipino food. I had the privilege of coming here twice while visiting Germany for the first time. The lumpia and ukoy were fantastic starters and were incredibly tasty and crunchy. The chicken inasal was sizzling, juicy and flavorful. We also had the lechon kawali, which is probably one of the best, if not the best, lechon kawali I've had--the skin was crispy and the pork super tender. The sauce on top was also quite special. I ended that night with leche flan and ube macapuno panna cotta. During my next visit, I had the oxtail kare kare, which was quite delicious and peanut buttery, just the way I like it. I then tried the chicken rebosado for the first time ever and it was incredible! Honestly, I was a bit upset that I've lived so long without trying such a tasty dish. The chicken was coated with a delicious sweet sauce and the meat was very juicy and tender. On top of their great food, their drinks were also very well done. The best espresso martini I've had. The servers were incredibly attentive, friendly, and kind. They truly go out of their way to make sure your time with them is special. This absolutely makes sense once you meet Chef Larry, who despite being super busy in the kitchen took time out to check in all of his guests. We chanced upon this restaurant bar on one of our rare child-free evenings in Lübeck. First impression: friendly welcome. There were two big parties when we arrived. One table was made up of several Filipinos which led us to think this must be their regular joint and the other table also appeared to be regulars as the chef seemed to give them quite a bit of attention. Then came our waiter who, although seemed enthusiastic at first about waiting on us slowly turned a different color when we ended up not ordering a three course meal each. I was suffering from a bad toothache that night and ended up not ordering a main course. Between the two of us, our bill came up to 50€ including tip so it wasn't like we went in and ordered two bottles of water. I didn't mind as much about paying Munich prices in Lübeck as the fact that we could have easily paid for less and gotten better waiting service elsewhere. The whiff of annoyance in our waiter’s mannerism was the least thing I desired for an evening out. Fortunately, what saved the night: the lady waiter who stepped in thrice for him had a contrastingly happier attitude, we enjoyed the fact that our foods were prepared by Filipino chefs and the bartender who made an extra gesture to take our coats left a positive impression. We also appreciated the fact that the owner/ head chef made an effort to tell us our food would be served soon. Would we recommend a visit? Sure. I think I cannot say anything about food because I was not even able to dine in. They should update their opening times in Google and so as in front of their restaurant. Google and the display on their restaurant states that they open 12 until 11pm. Unfortunately, when we went at 12 noon exactly— you guys were closed!! Was able to pass by around 1pm and it was open. I asked around what time you guys will be open and I think I got an answer of 10pm - 11pm (which matches the one that’s advertised). I even said we might come back 9pm so we will beat the 10pm. We even cut our trip to Maspalomas so we’d be able to try your food! Thus, we went back 9pm at night —and they in the verge of closing! Gates have already been semi-shutdown (foot-length) but I see people inside. However, didn’t want to bother anymore because the one in the bar was already drinking alcohol.

I understand that business might be difficult but please be considerate of people trying to get to your restaurant! Kindly update your opening hours and please stick to it as advertised. I would have been so excited to try your food!

P.S. Please consider this as a constructive criticism but due to our experience, we would leave you a bad star with the service and overall. The least thing your staff could have done was to be honest of what’s really the closing time.
