Favorite Restaurant — Restaurant in Mainz

Beautiful restaurant with equally beautiful view. The service is classically oriented rather formal, but extremely attentive and friendly. The wine list is very extensive and offers a great selection of German and international wines. The sommelier is also happy to advise on the selection. There are three menus to choose from, one of which is vegetarian, which I very much appreciated. Nevertheless, two fish dishes came to the table as a greeting from the kitchen. However, the service reacted appropriately to this, apologized many times and hastily procured replacements from the kitchen. In this respect, I have nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, the menu itself could not fully convince me. Although magnificently arranged, they were often rather boring in terms of composition and flavor. Absolutely fantastic evening. This is the 4th time I have dinned here, but the first time since Tobias Schmitt has been the chef. So it has been a while since my last visit. Before Tobias Schmitt, I had hit-and-miss experiences. However, our recent visit was charming. We did the four-course, and everything was perfectly crafted, from flavours to presentation. I had a hard time choosing what course because everything sounded great. The other stand-out part was the atmosphere, which was so comfortable and elegant. Ich bewerte das Gourmetrestaurant (1-Michelin Stern) im Hotel; (Hinweis: ich vermute, die negative Kritik zwei Stellen unter dieser bezieht sich auf ein anderes Restaurant im Haus, da weder die Speisen noch die Menükarte als ipad zum Favorite passen). Zunächst einmal ist es angenehm, dass man über open table online buchen kann. Und: man kann auch Einzelplätze reservieren. Es gibt eine Reihe von Sternerestaurants, die online erst ab zwei Plätzen buchen lassen. Entweder ist man als Einzelgast in denen also nicht erwünscht oder muss sich deren bevorzugtem Buchungsweg (also Telefon) unterwerfen. Hier also erster Pluspunkt für´s Favorite. Ich empfinde das Menü (roots in sechs Gängen gewählt) als geschmacklich sehr gut sowie liebevoll und optisch mit kleinen Details ansprechend angerichtet. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt: die Weinempfehlungen vom Restaurantleiter, Herrn Lisgen. Er wagt auch mal Empfehlungen ausserhalb der üblichen Verdächtigen bzw. der comfort-zone des Gastes ohne diesen aber zu überfordern. Sehr gut! So kam ich zu einem Riesling, den ich nie und nimmer bestellt hätte, der sich dann als absoluter Volltreffer zum gewählten Gang entpuppte. Der Service ist kundig und relativ locker, nicht formal oder steif. Fazit: wer ein feines Menü geniessen möchte und Freude an schönem Ambiente und kompetenten, dabei nicht zu formalen Service, hat, ist hier...
