Sat down outside with a big group of classmates for pre-dinner coffee and/or cocktails. A couple of us joined the rest of the group with a non-alcoholic beverage from another place after the vast majority of us (10+ group) had already ordered drinks and we had to leave in 15 minutes, but still planned to purchase another drink. There were plenty of other seating for other customers if they arrived which they did not.
Despite this, when they saw those of us with outside drinks, a man who I assumed to be the manager and/or owner stormed over to us angrily and yelled at us to put away our drinks, which we did. But then when one of us briefly took the drink out just to finish the last sip, he came storming over even more angrily and yelled “I don’t bring a drink when I go to McDonald’s.” (Literal quote) Later, he came out again just to glare at our table from several feet away.
To be completely clear and fair, I understand completely that a restaurant would have a no outside food or drink policy. But to come over to the table twice before the people who joined us afterwards even had a chance to order from the establishment and others had already ordered was just unnecessary and off putting. The people who came late were going to order a drink anyway but he lost money by being so incredulously rude. Waitress was very nice though, so everyone still...
Read moreAh, Cadu, or as it's more formally known, "Café an der Uni." This is not just another coffee shop; it's an institution in its own right. Situated conveniently close to Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, this café is a mere stone's throw away from the Universität U-Bahn station, making it incredibly accessible. If you're walking, it’s just a jaunt from the city centre.
The first thing you should know about Cadu is its symbiotic relationship with the intellectual life of Munich. Often bustling with students seeking a moment of respite between lectures, this café also attracts professors and other academic types. It’s a crucible where ideas are born over espressos and flat whites.
A noteworthy trivia about this place: it was originally founded in the post-war period as a bookstore. Over time, the books may have made way for beans, but the literary spirit endures in the well-curated selection of newspapers and periodicals available for perusal.
In conclusion, Cadu offers far more than your typical caffeine fix. It is a haven for intellectual discourse, a touchstone of local culture, and an oasis in the bustling life of a student or academic. Whether you're penning your next dissertation or merely soaking in the academic atmosphere, Cadu is a sanctuary you'd do well not...
Read moreThe 2 stars are only there for the Rest of the staff, they were quite polite and ready to help. Anyways the short brunette middle aged lady stole away the remaining 3 stars. I didn't see her take orders or serve food at all, but she was very ready to take my half full drink (that I had taken with me after it had been given to me on my Uni-Tour and I had opened just like the others) and demand that she had to throw it away (although I had bought food as well as drink from them). She didn't even offer me to put it away. Anyways, as I was meeting completely new people it was kind of embarrassing to me and sort of spoiled the rest of my evening. Apart from that the tables were also very tiny and rather uncomfortable to dine on, especially given the huge portions. The 2 stars are for the rest of the friendly staff and the "nice-tasting" food. I was hesitant to write a bad review because of them and also the fact that I know one doesn't take foreign drinks to a Cafe, but since I had explained that I thought the "Cafe an der Uni" belonged to the University and she still insisted on pouring my drink down the sink, I am...
