Chopan - near Gasteig — Restaurant in Munich

Statistics say that when you write a review, you either want to give a 1 star or a 5 star rating. In this case, I had to add a 5 star review to Chopan. I was there today with a group of friends, and we went to this one since the Chopan in Freiheit was already fully booked. The place is small, but super cosy due to the really tasteful decoration and mood. (+1 for dimming the lights after a certain time, -1 for the music selection :p) As for the food, I have to say that the appetizers were incredible good. You MUST try the Eggplant and the Pumpkin appetizers. I took as main dish Lamb with Rice and Potatoes which was, again, very tasty, but it still fell short behind from the Lamb and Eggplant combination or the Grilled Chicken with Eggplant. Honestly, I was really astonished by the quality and flavors of the food as well as with the portions. All and all it was a great experience, allied to the good service provided and friendliness of who I suppose to be the owner. Price wise it is also quite acceptable considering the whole experience (you can plan with 25€ per person for starters, main dish and drink). I am happy that we decided to try Chopan and they have surely made a new recurring...

Unfortunately our experience was not good mainly because a sum of misunderstandings and disappointments. The food was good. We came 20 minutes earlier and they told us they were full and that we should return in 20 minutes. Then we came after that 20 minutes and asked again for the reservation. They left us waiting without a kind word or an idea of ​​how long we would wait. Then we were asked for the language of the menu and my wife asked for the German one and I joke about receiving one in Spanish. We got the English one. The starters arrived well but after an hour the main course still hadn't arrived. We had to ask for it because customers who arrived after us had already received it. My dish was slightly cold. My wife asked for a simple yogurt as dessert, without nothing. She got a Kräuterquark. She complained about it and we were told they didn't have yogurt. We had to pay for it anyway even though we didn't want to. Finally, we got the impression of an unfair treatment. We saw that other customers were asked if they were enjoying the food and similar friendly conversation. That was...

Called and booked for 7 pm tonight for 5 persons and i was told that it shall be only till 8:30 and i agreed.

Arrived there on time (they have 2 shops next to each other) the first waiter said, no booking under our name then he changed to, yes there is but at 7:20, you have to wait.

We went to the second shop to check if they had a table and they did and big enough for more than 5 yet we were told that our table should be ready in the first shop and the waiter went to the other shop to confirm with the first waiter.

After 15-25 mins we were still waiting, no apology, nothing. Went again, to the shop with the empty table, to ask why are we left outside with kids hungry and that it has started to rain, the answer was, “you have to wait, where is your problem? This table is booked for someone else.”

Instead of apologizing or trying to solve the problem, they sent a waiter to the door of the shop to check if we are still there or not.

We definitely left and found a nicer restaurant where the employees know how to treat their guests.
