To all the travelers, especially people of colour or Non-White persons, choose wisely and do not pick this place. I am okay with them serving overpriced canned food, but the attitudes and discrimination from this environment is absolutely toxic. A horrific nightmare!! I gave one star for my visit due to the racist, discriminative and rude actions I had to experience by the other customers, and which the employees in this Jazzclub took no measurements against. The seats were extremely compact, uncomfortable and there was absolutely no space for people passing by without constantly having to bump into each other. As an Asian American I had to feel the many disgusted looks that people threw at me upon entering the club. Their rude staring made me feel as if I was the first Asian person they ever saw in their lifes. Long story short, as a photographer, I was trying to take a photo during this fantastic concert. I carefully walked to the very back of the crowd, behind others, and tried to not disturb anyone, careless about their crude stare contest, looking down on me and my wife. Suddenly, this white man turns around screaming at me: "Hey sorry! Are you done yet? Go back to your seat!" My first instinct was to apologize to him, thinking I was in his way. But that made absolutely no sense, I was not blocking him or touching him. He acted like he owned the place and shouted at me again: "Please go back to your seat." Again, I was trying my best to be very polite, I apologized and told him I would go back to my seat. While I was packing up my cameras and equipment a short haired white woman, shouted at me few seconds later, she asked if I had any permission to stand there. I asked if she had the permission to remove me from my spot and if she owned the Jazz club. Only when she screamed that loudly my wife realized that the local racist people teamed up against me. It's hard to be an Asian American in Germany. I tried my best to fit in and learn about their culture and courtesy. But people from South-München apparently add another level of hostility. They think they are rich and every single one of them thinks that they are the most important person on this planet. Again, everyone just stared at us and my wife during this circumstance. There is no freedom and rights when you are an Asian traveler. Shame for the people who are listening to Jazz and Blues and don't know the music originated from African American experiencing racism and discrimination. BLM, ALM! The people from the stage and the employees and servers did nothing in this circumstance. It is ridiculous, this club needs to decide to either play Jazz for everyone of us or let white supremacy rule.
*Additional comment after owner's reply: Thank you very much for your answer Michael! So I assume a simple apology that would resolve the issue isn't something your pride allows you to give? So your own opinion about the Jazz club being a place for everyone and comparing it to a church makes my bad experience there go away? So you really do think that absolutely unacceptable rude behavior of guests is justified when a person tries to take a single photo for a minute? So you would rather have people in your club treating each other like trash, than talking in a reasonable way to each other? If you would really care, you would have read and understood that the white guests created an atmosphere that I cannot and will not accept, screaming at me and disturbing the concert, not the other way around. How would you interprete this behavior if you were a foreigner and white people would treat you like this? I would say it is racist, to not look like the "typical bio German" and people teaming up against you.As for you sir, I would like to give you some quote by a very famous jewish-german, Hannah Arendt: "That's just the unwillingness to ever imagine what's actually going on with the other person, isn't it?" Wouldn't you agree, if I said your reply is just reproducing racist stereotypes again, assuming that I as a "person of color" would be the screaming misfit?...
Read moreFor a long time I was waiting for the opportunity to listen to a great singer: Judith Hill and Unterfahrt Club provided it for me. However, I suffered a disappointment which I noticed already in previous performances, this is the sound quality: extremely high and often exceeding the saturation level of the microphones or the sound equipment itself; the result was irritating, metallic sound, and it was impossible to understand the lyrics. My advice to Unterfahrt sound-engineers: please listen your own recording and compare them with the author's original and draw your own conclusions. Another issue was the absence of any air conditioning, it should be a must for a hall with such density of spectators. Five stars for the service, food...
Read moreJazz Unterfahrt in Munich is worth a visit. The musical program consists of a mix of small quartets to big band that span the entire jazz genre. There are also jam nights mixed in. What’s more, doors open an hour before the show allowing time to come in and eat. The menu includes pasta, soup, light bar snacks like nuts and dessert (apple strudel or chocolate cake). While the food menu is rather small (though good) there is a longer drink menu consisting of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Both the food and drinks are priced reasonably. As for the show itself, can reserve / buy tickets online. Members tend to pay half the price of the regular ticket prices. Make a night of it and check out Jazz Unterfahrt, it’s the place for...
