Ex-colleagues recommended me to go to this restaurant and I finally had an opportunity to dine here. The restaurant was located in the area I hadn’t really explored but you would hardly miss this place due to the massive elephant head stuck on the outer wall above the entrance. lol As soon as I went in I was welcomed by a super friendly staff who explained everything about the cuisine as well as the menu and she also recommended some specials. It was really helpful because I had zero knowledge of most of what I saw on their menu. They have things such as crocodiles meat and zebras meat that I never expected to be on the menu. lol (they have a tasting menu which you can try out each of these exotic meats if you’re up for it) So I mostly went for the recommendation of the staff which was a bingo for me because everything I had was absolutely tasty. The Bobotie I ordered was a traditional South African dish which comes with coconuts coated bananas, rice with raisins and minced bead and some tasty sauce that I have no idea what it was made of lol I am a type of person who doesn’t like fruits in a salty dish (I also don’t like coconuts) but oh boi, that dish was delicious! I ordered banoffee kinda tart which was their todays special on that day and enjoyed the whole thing. From the beginning till the end the staff was absolutely helpful and friendly. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cosy and warm throughout the night with some good music. It was a perfect dine-out. I promised the staff...
Read moreI want to underline that the 1-star rating is not related to the quality of food, but to the service (not) received by the staff.
During the end of the dinner, a container with a bottle of wine accidentally fell on my friend. Leaving aside the risky situation in which the bottle could have hit her on her head (it was placed by the waiter on the window sill), it can happen that a semi-rigid wine bottle container, with time, loses consistency and moves..
But here it comes the reason of the low rating: not a single waiter came to ask if she was ok (she was half wet) nor tried to help. One came towards us, picked up the bottle from the ground and disappeared. Another one came with a mop and dried the floor. I had to stand and search for handkerchiefs in their kitchen! Everything happened with an embarrassing indifference from the staff, which left us speechless.
After going towards the manager to report the situation, one waiter approached my friend, probably scared of possible consequences. We didn't get a single apologize nor help, and I stop here with the...
Read moreLoved this place! First time to try South African food and I really enjoyed it!
But a bit on the pricy side, which is to be expected for all the exotic food they offer.
The food was delicious! However, the reason for one less star is that the portion size is not very big. For me it was the perfect size, but I am not a huge eater. I had the Bobotie, which was a delicious mix of sweet and savory. We also tried the zebra and crocodile meat which tasted unexpectedly very good. But the best one was the Namibian beef filet!
As a dessert we had the traditional alcohol shot, it is similiar to baleys. I had the one with a mix of cassis, which was very tasty!
I would still recommend this place! The service was superb and the staff was extremely friendly. They explained the whole menu to you, so as a first timer you don't have to be scared of all the names that are unfamilliar. They also have a small lexicon in...
