Visualise this. It’s Sunday and around 18.00. You are slightly hungry and want to grab some food before going to cinema. You see this place which kind of looks above average, let’s say hip and leaning towards upscale, but not really (pretentious is the word). There are tables occupied on the street and these few next to the window. Absolutely all tables in the dining hall are free. You ask for a table for 1 and uncompromisingly you’re commanded to sit at the bar. You have doubts that all tables are reserved in a span of the nearest 30-60min (spoiler: it turns out to be true!), but you are not even able to ask it ‘cause the waiter is running around so your question falls on the deaf ears. So you obediently sit at the bar. You are given the menu and while browsing through it you observe the following scene: several people walk in without reservation and are seated (3 or 4 tables if I’m not mistaken). You start getting slightly annoyed and wondering, whether you were unworthy to sit at the table, whether it was your outfit (You wear Marni and mix of Scandinavian niche designers, you must admit not everyone has such an exquisite taste). At this point you already know that the tip will be less than 10% percent (usually, you're a guest who if pleased leaves at least 15-20%). You order your food and aperitivo. You wait for the last one, i.e. Franciacorta, more than 5min to arrive and that only fuels up your irritation. Finally the waiter brings your entry dish - Vitello Tonnato, and puts it not in front if you but somewhere on the right that you have to reach for it. You finished with it. The waiter comes, takes the dirty fork from a plate and puts back on a napkin!!! DIRTY FORK!!! At this moment you are so startled, shocked, you name it, that you only this is circulating in your head: ЭТО Б…Ь ЧТО ЗА Н…Й! *[eto blyad’ shto za nakhuy]. Right now you are totally certain that this is 0% tip. You are done with pizza and order Limoncello. You ask for the bill and pay, no tip (what for?!). Later you notice in the bill that the sum(Summe Verkäufe) and Total differs by several euros, which you hope was for Limoncello, since you didn’t intend to leave any gratitude whatsoever.
It’s 18:53, you leave the place and most of the tables are still free! Très bien! (pun intended).
Synopsis: you rate this place with 1 star only because the food was decent but overall experience was dreadful, you were forced to inconvenience of sitting at the bar which equals to offence and all the hospitality standards were drastically violated. NOT RECOMMENDED, unless you’re used to low...
Read moreNice little spot for some good Italian food. You definitely want to make reservations ahead of time because most of the busy hours (6-8PM) go quick. I made 830PM reservations but showed up 15 minutes early and was able to be seated right away, which was nice.
Service was a bit slow but I only saw two people working the front of the house and it was busy all night from my arrival at 815PM until I left 2+ hours later, likely due to Oktoberfest weekend as well as the German holiday tomorrow. Most tables were filled and there were also people at the bar, so it was definitely busy. Both people working the front were very pleasant and made sure everything was good when it came out and asked how it was when I finished.
I ordered a glass of red wine and sparkling water which was brought out right away. The salad tasted fresh and delicious, however upon delivery I was told there there no more lasagna so I opted for the parmigiana (eggplant only). Food came out very hot so no issues bringing out the food once ready. Not typically a fan of eggplant but this was really good. I finished up with a single espresso and Tiramisu which was also very good.
Aside from the slowness (staff was very apologetic multiple times so I don't fault them for it) I would definitely recommend here for a nice dinner. Didn't try the pizza but it looked really good from what I did see pass by. My entire meal was about €40 which I felt was pretty reasonable for having a larger glass of wine, salad, dinner, and dessert. If I come back to the area, I would like to come back and...
Read moreWe were in the museum district earlier this month and were due for lunch. We saw this Italian restaurant and thought we should give it a try.
My stepson was craving pasta so he ordered the linguine with tartufo (truffle sauce) and my husband and I shared a margherita di búfala (margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella). My stepson wanted to sit outside so it was the bartender who came out and took our order.
Service was a bit on the slow side. We observed though that at this region of the world, servers seem to be trained not to rush customers so you would need to let them know if you are in a hurry. If you didn’t, then it would be safe to say you will have to ask for the bill once you’re ready to pay otherwise you might wait a while.
Anyway, the pasta was delicious per my stepson. My husband and I also enjoyed the pizza that we split. I am also glad that my lemon soda (Italian brand) was the perfect refresher for quite...
