0 Stars – A Masterclass in Colonial-Era Roleplay (With Modern-Day Racism)** If you’ve ever wondered what it might feel like to be treated as a "colonial subject" while sipping tea, Brown’s Tea Bar delivers this bizarre historical reenactment with disturbing enthusiasm. My visit was less a cozy afternoon tea and more an anthropological study in how to alienate 60% of the world’s population.
Upon arrival, our Asian group was "strategically" seated by the drafty restroom door despite multiple empty tables in the sunlit atrium ("reserved for regulars," according to our server’s icy smirk). Meanwhile, European-dining patrons received theatrical flourishes: napkins unfolded like rose petals, endless refills of clotted cream, and servers who actually bothered to make eye contact.
The pièce de résistance? When requesting the same Earl Grey blend a white couple raved about, we were told it was "too strong for Asian palates" and steered toward syrupy, overpriced fruit infusions. How thoughtful—they’ve curated a special menu for those they deem incapable of handling real tea!
The decor is quaintly Victorian. The service? A perfect homage to 19th-century imperialism. Bravo for consistency, I suppose.
TL;DR: The scones are decent. The racism is...
Read moreIncredible little place for a breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and everything else 😁😆. It's a bit small so it can get crowded, but I understand why. The scones with clotted cream are a must try, and some cakes (like the mud cake) look soooo good. I haven't tried it, but I will! The selection of tea is really big, I couldn't even decide! In the end I went with Her Majesty Jubilee black tea, which was quite nice, I have to admit. The scones were the star of the show, though. I recently ate them in some really old traditional tea houses in London, and these were almost as good as in London! If London scones were 10/10, these were maybe 9,5/10. Close enough, they were amazing and I even bought some to take home, as well as the clotted cream. I definitely wanna come back and try the cakes and more tea. Also, the owner (or at least the main barista/waitress) was really nice and polite. 10/10...
Read moreI will be visiting Munich soon and I am thrilled and elated by the fact that the cafe has re-opened. During my university years I visited the cafe frequently and frankly was never disappointed. The wide variety food and drink was always of the highest quality- my favourite has to be the cheesecake! The cafe itself has elegant decor and a lovely welcoming atmosphere but most importantly, friendly staff, especially Rosa. I distinctly remember Rosa as a polite and attentive manager, ensuring customers were satisfied no matter how busy she seemed to be. She instilled lively energy not only into her work but also into the rest of the cafe's atmosphere. If it were possible, I would give the cafe's quality of food and service 10 stars! I cannot wait to visit the cafe again, this time with my family and for them to meet the...
