Goldener Ochs (bayerische/kroatische Küche) - Regensburg — Restaurant in Regensburg

After wondering around town looking for a likely place to eat, and after being disappointed that the place down by the river closed at 7 p.m. (!), we stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. And glad we are that we did! The food (very meaty!) combines Croatian/Balkan specialities with local cuisine (and beers!). It is situated in a quiet spot, and the four of us sat outside.

It must be noted that it took a while for one of the waiters (a father & son team) to get us the menus and even longer for us to be served once out order had been taken (around 40 minutes, while other tables that arrived slightly after us were served and had finished eating by the time out lips touched food!). Despite the service being a bit slow, the staff were friendly and even joked around with the children, making us feel at home. The wait was well-worth it, though and we all got up well-replete. We had tried the kepapce, the liver and some snitzels, served with fries. The portions are generous and the sauces delicious. The dinner cost us €58 for four people including 3 large...

We had dinner at Goldener Ochs twice during our short stay in Regensburg this week. Both times me and my wife ate seafood dishes, and the kids had meats and sausages. Grilled fish and scampi were some of the best we ever had, prepared just right and leaving the feeling that we just had a delicious home-cooked meal.

The place was very busy both days, but the family which runs it found a way to accommodate us, both times without reservations (it’s a good idea to reserve a table though). It’s hard to tell but it feels that it’s frequented by locals even more than by tourists. To my taste, the place is a gem.

Das Wort gilt hier nichts

Ich hatte vor etlichen Monaten für unsere alljährliche Weihnachtsfeier einen Tisch in dem kleinen Nebenraum des Lokals wie schon im letzten Jahr reserviert.

Eben dieser Nebenraum war für uns auch der entscheidende Grund, warum unsere Wahl auf dieses Restaurant gefallen ist. Wir wollten einen entspannten Abend mit unseren 4 Kindern verleben, bei dem sich auch die Kinder zwischendurch mal etwas bewegen können, ohne andere Gäste zu stören.

Bei unserer Ankunft in der Gaststätte mussten wir dann leider feststellen, dass der Wirt unsere 10köpfige Gruppe einfach in den Hauptraum platziert hat. Auf meine Frage, warum wir nicht wie reserviert und zugesagt einen Tisch im Nebenraum bekommen, meinte dieser lapidar, den Nebenraum für eine größere Gesellschaft gebraucht zu haben. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass wir nun einmal zuerst reserviert hatten und uns ein Tisch im Nebenraum auch zugesagt worden war, finde ich dieses Verhalten unmöglich! Das Wort zählt hier bedauerlicherweise offensichtlich nichts!

Unschön war auch, dass nach dem Abräumen der Teller unsere leeren Gläser im Endeffekt nicht mehr abgeräumt wurden.
