Landwehr-Bräu am Turm — Restaurant in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

While Rothenburg ob der Tauber is incredibly nice, restaurants seem to be a bit more on the unreasonably pricier side. Landwehr Bräu am Turm is the absolute contrary. It's only a few minutes by foot from the main spots but food & drinks are very reasonably priced and the quality is sublime. Nothing over the top fancy but simply good and well thought out dishes.

They have a great variety of beers from their own brewery (and other drinks) and a very small menu of vegetarian dishes. The beer garden is very relaxed and service was incredibly welcoming. Indoors you get the full experience of a traditional Franconian pub. Reservation is recommended due to limited amounts of tables.

After dinner, we headed to the cozy Landwehr-Bräu pub for a drink. The pub was close to our hotel, just past the Siebersturm tower on the main street near the Plönlein. Inside, it was already quiet as the time approached 11 PM, but we wanted to enjoy the warm summer evening on its charming, small outdoor terrace right next to the castle wall.

There were still quite a few people on the terrace, and only one waiter-bartender seemed to be managing the entire pub, so service took a little while. Despite being busy, he was friendly enough. My first visit was quite disappointing. I booked before 2pm so the kitchen would still be open because I wanted to have real food. But when I asked for the menu, the waiter just brought me the black board that was hanging at the entrance with four options - not what I expected. I thought I was making a safe decision by choosing the Bratwurst, but I ended up getting a veggie Bratwurst - not what I expected.
