Café Batela — Restaurant in Saarbrücken

It's actually been a nice place, I've been there 3 times but my 4th and last experience wasn't quite inviting so I won't risk going there again. The staff was clearly overwhelmed because the place was packed, I was about to wait for a table, but since the entrance is small and we were a group of 3: me, my elderly mother and my child, we stood by the side to not block the entrance and it was too hot on that day. A table outside became free, my mother sat down right away, I wanted to inform the waitress (since they usually expect people to wait to be seated, although the entrance is quite small and no place to wait without imposing on guests) and I hadn't said anything I was just attempting to speak when she quickly said in an annoyed manner: yes yes I will clean the table later (I wasn't going to ask her to clean the table). When her colleague came, I informed her that we found a table and asked her to please let us know, if a table becomes free inside, (because my child and my mother wouldn't bear the sun, I didn't say this, but it was obvious), so she said : "we don't actually do this, change tables". Came on a late Sunday morning, the place was packed. We stayed patient and jumped on the first table that got freed.

Food : the food is very good, it comes in good portions to a very fair price. At first, we feared that portions would be small considering the rather decent prices on the menu… so we ordered 2 plates per person. What a lovely mistake…ahaha We ended up eating everything though. Not too difficult as all dishes were very tasty 😋 They have various options for vegan people too which is quite nice.

Service : a lot of people, a lot of dishes, a lot of waiting time. We got served the drinks that were supposed to accompany the food about 40 minutes before getting our food served.

So if you’re on a schedule… you might want to avoid that place but then I highly recommend you stop by next time you have some free time because the food...

The place we had high expectations and excitement to try because of their Turkish style breakfasts. We have been there 3 times and ttried Menemen, something called Hangover and Sesame Scramble, and they were all tasty I would say. But we were not happy about their service and their behaviour against us. They kept us waiting a lot while serving to customers who arrived after us and everytime we wanted to ask for something they were acting so cold to us, unlike their behaviour against their German customers and it made us feel like excluded.
