We had our lunch at Kartoffelhaus for our day trip to Schwerin town. After a little search on Google reviews, it seems a legit option and we wanted to give a try. We had one Lammragout, one grillteller, 2 Erdinger Hell, and 1 Aprol. As we wanted to leave some space in our stomach for a coffee and dessert late afternoon, we decided to go with 2 main dishes for 3 pax and asked for empty plates. Then guess what ? For the first time in my life, I am charged for Großer Räuberteller which translates to robber’s plate (you can google it) for empty plates. For each plate, they charge us 1.5 EUR, totalling 4.5 EUR. This was quite a disappointment. The waitress could inform us about the pricing if they charge such a ridiculous price for just an empty plate. Apart from that, the grill platter was just a mediocre grill of lightweight cut assortment of few meat pieces lacking tenderness and flavour. I like the Lammgrout but I found it too salty that I think could not finish it on my own. The ambience-wise it is a nice restaurant but this ridiculous extra charge of 4.5 EUR for empty plates and subpar mediocre taste of main dishes leave me no choice but to leave 1 star for this restaurant. And I give this star for the attentiveness and kindness...
Read moreNice but slightly distant staff, rustic ambiance - but unwarranted prices.
TLDR: while not terrible, the dishes are too small, salty and expensive. There's better alternatives in the city with a higher quality standard. :)
Being a German native I wasn't initially drawn to the place but since my girlfriend never had a "Ofenkartoffel" before we decided to give that a go for the occasion.
The restaurant itself and the staff are nice, but the food quality to price ratio is simply not given. The food (soup especially) is on the salty side which is somewhat normal in German cuisine - but the price is not. A simple baked potato with sour cream and side (salad) costs 15-16€; the potato soup we ordered was too salty and rather modest in...
Read moreWhat a Gem. Only discovered this place last night and it is now one of my favourite restaurants, food was amazing with great friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. I ordered rump steak which came with baked potato and kidney bean mix. All extremely tasty. Would say one of the best meals I have had in Germany. Hats of to the pastry chef! Best desserts I have probably tasted ever. We were a table of four and all really enjoyed everything we were served. My only regret is I didn't think of taking any photos to post here but trust me you won't be disappointed. I want to go back today to order the chocolate soufflé as I didn't have room last night for desserts only a...
