I really enjoyed my experience at Eatrenalin - but at this price point, it should be perfect, and that isn't the case here.
The concept is great, and as a theme park enthusiast, I loved the overall idea and execution. In particular, the rooms which have more "ride" like elements worked really well. I could see that some might find them silly, or campy, but these stood out as a highlight - pure Mack and Europa Park delight! I only wish there were a little more of that. Similar applies to some other surprises throughout the evening.
Most rooms were interesting and had a variety of things going on - some, like Ocean, were more relaxing, whilst others were more intense.
I didn't particularly care for the story - or what I understood of it, and I think it'd actually be more effective with less language and voiceovers.
The food was almost universally excellent. I loved almost everything I was served and how the room complemented the dishes. Dishes tend to be Asian-inspired and a little acidic. I expect some people may not like this, but it qas very much to my tastes. I was surprised how good the food was. Having said that, the second main course was strangely forgettable in comparison to everything else. The Universe room in general was disappointing.
The drinks pairings were fine, although unremarkable.
However, at this price point, customers deserve perfection and attention to detail. There are areas which are overlooked and could be improved upon, such as:
The language options are not good. Servers typically speak German and maybe some English. No English slots are provided. As native English speakers who are more proficient in French than German, we opted for a French session - most servers asked us if we spoke German or English and had limited French. The French was limited mostly to the prerecorded voiceovers. As mentioned before, I found one room in particular underwhelming in terms of both the food and theme. The music/audio skips and cuts out every couple of minutes and is a fairly constant annoyance. You can see servers rushing to prepare or clean up on your way into and out of rooms. You can see servers carrying plates of food from an area marked WC from the entry bar. It would be preferable for the food to be hidden from incoming guests. If you don't finish a drink before it's time to the next room, it's taken away from you. You don't get it back in the next room or elsewhere. The servers are very clear with you on what is and isn't included, i.e., this champagne reception includes this one glass of champagne. At €255, a little generosity would be appreciated. The music from the bar is very audible in the final "show" room which slightly breaks the immersion.
In general, Eatrenalin wants to be silver service - but it doesn't always fully hit the mark.
Overall, a really good experience. If you're interested in unique experiences, theme park and themed entertainment and fine dining, you're likely to enjoy it, although how you feeling about it is ultimately going to be influenced by the very heavy price tag here. At half the price, it would be much easier to recommend. At €255 per person, it's a "one and done" for me. I would recommend it to others, but I'd be...
Read moreOverall a very unique and great experience. Quite a special concept, massive investments in terms of the visual/sensorial experience, but quite dissapointing on the food experience.
While food is presented in the same way as many high end restaurants, it lacks in flavour and personality. It feels toned down for the German palate, and overall uninspired. There are restaurants where you will eat more refined associations for 50 euros in Strasbourg.
The food was nicely presented and clearly required a lot of work, but was overall dull, for this price range.
Most meals were clearly prepared well before our visit, and this felt more like a fancy canteen, as some lacked freshness.
There was also a certain level of slopiness and lack of attention to details: we were told that no English explanation was available, so took the French-speaking session. Yet, all the staff spoke English (and no French). Menus were still displayed in German.
The service was not on par with the price, with waiters no especially attentive, and quite direct.
Little attention was put on our choice of non-alcoholic drinks, as we were handed out the alcoholic version multiple times. The non-alcoholic drinks were mostly fruit juices, which were quite acidic and not well balanced with meals.
Some guest also threw up in the bathroom, which is a bit concerning. Looking at the lowest ratings in reviews, this seems to be a trend, which is unacceptable at this price range.
At the end of the journey, you are asked for a time multiple times. This really gives a very cheap note to the experience.
In summary, the food and service are well below michelin standards, but the experience is...
Read moreIt was unique! They managed to merge the concept of an exclusive restaurant and amusement park, which do not fit by nature, and yet they succeed! I really recommend to all Bon Vivants to try! Menu sensualized all our tastes and left the filling of completeness (filled with pleasure). All details are perfectly matched to please you: dimmed light, sounds not to mention the unique visual aspects, floating experience... What we have appreciated a lot is: the human touch - with very professional team behind; remarkable grapefruit soup and the best ice-cream dessert I have ever had. We also enjoyed the ambiance in the bar. Nice to stop even just for a coffee before the final end. But I would still change a few small details... 1) I like to drink sparkling water and the choice was not offered 2) when we booked we received a video addressed only to the booking account holder. Why not to address it rather to all participants? 3) I would appreciate something for special occasions dinners like b-days(even just a printed card with wishes to memorize the event provided at the very end or a candle on dessert would do). 4) I would add a printed introduction in EN &FR for international guests showed in the chair room, so they could understand who is the lady at the end.... Anyway, after I shared my experience with some friends they all now want to come;). We really had a great time! Many thanks to Eatrenalin Team for this exclusive evening!...
