Left before ordering food
At around 8pm last night myself and three friends arrived to Colony and asked about available tables. A blonde server (didn’t catch her name but she was very polite) explained that it is first come first serve and we would be seated after another party of four that arrived before us. So my group waited outside (~30 minutes).
During that time another group of four arrived and were waiting (closer to the entrance than us). By the time a table was free, the blonde waitress came out and I guess she assumed the group closest to the door was the most recent group and began letting them in, but my group reminded her that we spoke to her earlier that night and she quickly recalled and allowed us in. This is where the problems started.
In our haste to get seated, we forgot the step of getting our vaccine cards scanned etc (although I want to point out that we were all masked, and had no intention of deliberately bypassing health regulations). Also, the music was SO loud in there, that when I saw the blonde waitress point to the table and mention getting it ready, I misunderstood her as asking us to get seated. In hindsight we should have just waited at the door until we were processed. But given how hectic the entrance was, how LOUD it was in there, and how tired my friends and I were, we simply forgot.
As we were getting seated, a brunette server (named Carla, the manager it seems from other reviews) yells across a table (that had customers) next to us something to the effect of “you can’t just walk in here, you need to wait outside” and was motioning us to go to the door. I dont know if she was referring to the first come first serve line outside or the vaccine check, but I replied “we were waiting outside and were told to come in”. I had to reply this with a raised voice because 1) loud music and 2) I was taken aback by how rude she was.
As we settled in our seats and the table was wiped down, the blonde server was about to check our cards but Carla came over to our table and said she would be taking over.
She IMMEDIATELY started off by saying to me “I wont be having any more attitude from you this evening”. I’m not exaggerating when I say that myself and everyone at our table were shocked. It was so out of nowhere that she went into attack mode. I was so confused that initially I replied “What attitude? We were outside and told to come in”. At no point did she greet us or start the conversation out in a professional manner.
She then specified about the vaccine cards and continued to berate me about having attitude (when clearly she was escalating the whole thing, pointing her fingers at me), and I distinctly recall putting my hands up and saying “I think there was a misunderstanding” and we all proceeded to take our vax card and ID out.
She then insisted on two pieces of ID (first time this whole pandemic that I experienced a restaurant asking for 2 pieces) and one friend said he didn’t have another one with his photo on it (except a pic of his passport on his phone, which Carla didn’t accept).
At this point we were still stunned and my friend was deciding if it was worth going home to get his passport.
We decided to leave because
This wasn’t my first time at Colony but it will without a doubt be my last visit.
The rest of our evening we tried to figure out exactly where things went wrong and it could have been a combination of many things (even wondering if Carla was having a bad day?!). But it just left a really bad impression and dulled the mood of the...
Read moreI used to recommend the Colony to all of my friends both from and visiting Vancouver, I can no longer say this.
I was extremely disappointed by the attitude and the service, or thereby lack of, from all of the staff. We were asked to wait outside in the cold for no longer than five minutes. After waiting for 15 minutes I inquired as to whether we may be seated. We were rudely given a condescending response.
In particular, Michelle (pictured) was extremely condescending to our group and extremely rude to me in particular. To her credit and not to my knowledge, an individual in our group had a drink on them when entering the bar; this resulted in a very fairly given warning.
What wasn’t fair was the watchful eye Michelle kept on us for the remainder of the night, ignorant only when we needed any service. We waited unreasonable epochs for our orders, a glass of water, and our bills.
Upon the end of our visit, Michelle made it a point to interrogate our group in regards to an individual who fell asleep because of how long Michelle took to bring us our drinks and the bill. After reassuring her multiple times that we were aware and well prepared to look over the individual who had fallen asleep (now awake and completely fine), she continued to pester each individual with the same interrogation.
I would not have taken the time to write this review had i not felt obliged to warn others of the service...
Read moreWent for Champions League final and their stream cut out multiple (at least 20) times. Other bars around town were not having this issue so it was on Colony to fix, or better yet, to prevent. Then with a few minutes left in the game somebody completely signed out of DZN so everyone missed the end of the match. Was there an apology or explanation? No, not one sign that any of the staff cared that they had just massively disappointed a fully packed pub. When we asked for a discount our server, the bartender, let us know there would be none forthcoming in a very rude way. As an ex server I cant recall the last time I didnt leave a tip. Colony and its staff broke that streak. Will be avoiding this place in general but definitely will never trust them for putting on a major event again.
In response to your comment below: I'm glad you take the time and care enough to read and respond to these comments, hopefully you address them with your staff as well. I do disagree still with your assertion of empathy as we didn't get any such vibe, in fact not one word was said to us or our neighbors from staff regarding the poor quality of the streaming. Maybe DAZN or your internet provider had some fault in our experience too, but they didnt log out of the whole system with 3 minutes left in extra time, that was on you guys. Again, glad you are reading these, hope this helps...
