The menu starts with a delightful range of Appetizers, featuring beloved Greek classics like tzatziki, fava (split pea puree), dolmades (vine leaves stuffed with rice), and saganaki (fried cheese). There are also hot appetizers such as grilled halloumi, spicy cheese dip, and fried zucchini, perfect for sharing and tasting a variety of flavors.
The Salads section is colorful and fresh, with choices like the classic Greek salad, a Cretan salad with rusks and feta, or a seasonal green salad, all drizzled with rich Greek olive oil and sprinkled with fragrant oregano.
For mains, the Cretan Meat Platters stand out — generous servings of grilled lamb chops, pork, chicken souvlaki, or mixed grills, all served with golden fries or vegetables. For pasta lovers, the Pasta section includes delicious options like pasta with shrimps, creamy sauces, or simple tomato and basil.
Seafood lovers will enjoy the Fresh Seafood selection, with grilled octopus, fried calamari, shrimp saganaki, and fresh fish cooked to perfection — a true taste of the Mediterranean.
To accompany your meal, the drinks list offers a wide variety: crisp local wines (red, white, rosé), refreshing beers, traditional ouzo and tsipouro, and non-alcoholic options such as soft drinks, juices, and coffee.
For a perfect finish, you can linger over a Greek coffee or a glass of raki while enjoying the cozy atmosphere of the taverna.

Read moreFirstly, this restaurant has almost faultless reviews on TripAdvisor and Goggle and there is 1 review that suggests the staff beg for 5* reviews and 'bribe' for better comments - we initially thought 'well that explains it then,' however from our experience our meal at at Abibayio was the best meal we had from our whole time in Athens, and ranks among the best we have had in a very long time. It is a real shame that someone has shared such a negative experience and called many of the other fantastic reviews into question - I do not wish to question others' experiences, as I hope everyone posts genuine reviews, but I honestly cannot see how anyone could have had anything other than a 5* experience here.
The staff were brilliantly attentive, especially filling glasses promptly, and showed a genuine interest in who we were as customers, and had great knowledge about the menu. The food was incredible, as shown in the pictures, and we couldn't decide which dish was our favourite as it was all fantastic. The pork dish is something I'll be talking (and thinking) about for some time - it was genuinely exquisite.
I went with my partner, we shared a bottle of wine and a starter, we had a main meal each, and a complimentary dessert, and it came to 68 Euros, I can't remember a meal that we have had that comes close to this for value for money - in the UK I think you would have paid over £25 for the pork dish alone.
Please do not be put off by the review suggesting other 5* reviews are not genuine - this restaurant is amazing and you should...

This restaurant has been there for years but we were told that it's been open under a new management for about a month. We were also told its name means the Pirates' Den or something similar in Latin, although I wasn't able to confirm it. It doesn't really matter, though.
We hadn't actually planned on going there. We were passing by it when it started to rain heavily so we had to make a quick decision. What a lucky moment❣️
Everything we ordered, literally EVERYTHING, was more than good. There were no simple tastes, even though I am a huge fan of simple. Everything was well thought of and perfectly executed.
Another nice surprise was the bill. As this restaurant is located near the Acropolis, so it could easily be a tourist trap, it is not. It is very reasonably priced for what it offers. We spent 92 euros for 4 persons, wine included. Some of the best 92 euros we have ever spent.
We will definitely be...
