During a family vacation in Athens to visit relatives, I discovered the museum through some research and got excited to visit it. Today, we visited with my two kids and easily bought tickets online, although I could have purchased them directly at the museum since there was plenty of availability. ( I suggest though to always check availability online, just in case). However, I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed with the experience as I expected a more extensive and thematic experiences. The museum felt smaller than anticipated. Within just 10 minutes, my 6-year-old asked if there was anything else to see and felt disappointed. It's possible that we are used to more varied experiences abroad, which made the museum seem lacking. The concept is good, but it definitely needs more work and content.
The 50-minute duration was quite long since you can finish exploring everything in about a quarter of that time. Despite this, the staff was friendly, and the girl at the entrance was very polite and helpful. I noticed that most of the staff were young people (which is positive), and they kept the place clean, continuously clean up surfaces while we were there (another positive aspect).
My three-star rating mainly reflects my personal opinion that the museum lacks on variety. I wish it were more kid-friendly, with activities and dedicated spaces for children. (I might be mistaken about this, but during my visit, there were no specific activities for kids.) Considering the price, I find it overpriced for the relatively small space. If it were in a larger building with more variety and activities for kids, even if the ticket price was higher, I wouldn't mind spending more. Please note that my review is purely based on my personal perspective, and I don't intend to criticize the staff, who are doing their job really well. My concerns are directed towards the...
Read moreThe Museum of Illusions in Athens is fun, but quite small (smaller than others I have been to). It is all basically in one room.
When we first arrived in the morning we were told best to come back 5 hours later as 4 different school groups were booked at different times and would be too crowded. When we arrived later on, we were almost alone for about 20 minutes, until another school group arrived and made it impossible to do/see anything. So make sure to call/coordinate your visit with school trips!
With all that, there are a few fun classic illusions, nothing super-wow, but the kids got some fun pictures. (14, 15, 16). Not so much educational value, though things are explained on the walls in English & Greek.
In short, if you are with younger kids, or teens who want some fun Instsgram pics, lol, it's a stop - definitely no more than an hour needed. Wish it were bigger/offered more. And the spinning tunnel illusion they show on all their ads/pictures/website wasn't really working - what is supposted to be the highlight. Pity as this is something super cool we did in Amsterdam a few months ago.
Not a 'museum' we will be repeating on a return trip to Athens, but was fun for...
Read morePerhaps because we are in low season, but our experience here is totally opposite to what I’ve read in the other reviews.
When we arrive they said there are 20 students inside & really crazy so they recommend we take the slot 30mins after. We bought the tickets for the next slot & headed next door to have a little snack.
When we came back the place was so chill. It was perfect for me and my son because crowds make us anxious.
My recommendation for this place is this: do not fall in line for a long time. It’s not worth it. If there is a line buy tickets for the next slot online so you can breeze through. Or choose a weekday to go. It’s not a big museum. You have 50mins. So lining up for an hour is not worth it.
We’ve been to another Museum of Illusion in Stuttgart Germany but I prefer this one because the staff are so so friendly and helpful. They give the best tips & volunteer to take our pics. So my son and I not only had such great time but also have awesome photos to remind us of this wonderful museum.
Perfect for curious...
