The Thissio View is a very nice hotel and its name is well deserved. The view of the Acropolis from our room balcony was…just wow.
As a first-time visitor to Athens, I found the location to be perfect. It’s a short walk to the nearest metro station and only slightly farther to most of the sights I wanted to see. Having a balcony overlooking Apostolou Pavlou was very pleasant as we wound down in the evening.
The staff at the hotel knows how to make you feel welcome. They anticipated most of our needs and learned our habits, which is one distinct advantage to staying in a boutique hotel.
The breakfast included with our stay was far better than a simple breakfast buffet. We ordered from a menu which was short but I found the options adequate and the meals delicious.
Let me just say as well that the property itself is immaculately clean. While there were some damaged fixtures, nothing at all was dirty
I do have a few notes which would improve the overall experience:
The restaurant was not to the level I expected in a property of this type. We ate at the rooftop restaurant on our first day here and while there was nothing wrong with our meal, there was also nothing in particular to draw us back for a second visit, especially with so many other options in walking distance. The cafe seating across the street was a bit unpredictable. On one afternoon we took seats only to find that the cafe was not in operation. On another occasion, we were able to get a beverage but were informed that the kitchen could only serve “snacks”. Neither of these were dealbreakers but they struck me as odd. I wasn’t a huge fan of the bathroom configuration. The jetted tub is nice enough but the lack of a real shower was strange to me. There was a handheld spray nozzle but I would have much preferred the ability to easily take a shower without worrying about splashing water across the bathroom with the lack of a shower curtain. It would also help to mention in the room listing that it is in no way handicapped accessible. The lighting on the balcony was … bright. It goes from full illumination when the staff is on duty to completely off when they go home with no ability for guests to control the brightness level. That brightness detracts from the atmosphere as well as the beautiful view.
Overall, I would most probably stay here again. If they resolved the issues I mentioned, especially the bathroom and the balcony lighting, I would come back with no...
Read moreThere is not enough room on the page to tell you about the positive experience we had with this hotel! We booked this hotel and reservations for dinner on the rooftop back in April for a July (two nights apart visit). Upon checking in we new right away that we had picked a gem! As soon as the taxi pulled up to the hotel two employees grabbed our four bags and welcomed us with the warmest welcome ever, and two cold bottles of water! The check in was fast and seamless, he asked us about our plan the next say as I had said we were going on a seven day cruise. He (I think Terry) set up our taxi to get us at 11:00am. He then escorted us to our room and showed us the side security door just for guest with a fob to keep everyone safe after the restaurant closes upstairs, more on that later. When we were brought to our room it was meticulously clean, it even smelled clean, no joke. We settled in and then went out to explore Athens. We had made a dinner reservation upstairs for 8:00pm, the food was amazing, and I mean amazing! The room comes with a free bottle of wine so we had that with our dinner. Fast forward a week after our cruise. We had set up with him to be back at the hotel by 8:00 to 9:00am, he was going to hold our luggage and such until our room was ready later that day. We of course had assumed it would be by 3:00pm check in so we had expected a long day of walking around Athens once again. NOPE, he said as soon as the guest checked out at 11:00am, our room would be the first to be cleaned. He called my husband at 12:00pm to say our room was ready and we could return whenever we would like. We returned around 1;00pm to find our luggage all set in our room. He also set up our transfer to the airport early Sunday morning, we asked for a seven a.m. pick up, the taxi was outside our balcony at 6:40am waiting for us (I has gone out for one last photo). Once again we had a beyond wonderful dinner upstairs with the most amazing view you could ever ask for. We also had the same view from our balcony each visit. The Acropolis is right up the street, we walked up there at least four times and enjoyed the street vendors and music. We could not have asked for a better...
Read moreIt is a nice and clean hotel not far from the Acropolis. Our hotel room had a view of the Parthenon. The bathroom was clean and had enough towels, but the shower was quite small. The bed was smaller than usual (narrower and shorter) and it would have been more comfortable for me if it was softer, but the pillows were soft. The hotel is located in an area where there are many restaurants. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and the meals from the breakfast menu can be ordered in the restaurant in front of the hotel, and this is also a significant problem for the hotel, because on the first day we waited about 20 minutes for the preparation of sunny side up eggs after ordering. On the second day, we waited for the preparation of sunny side up eggs for over 30 minutes, and on the third day, we waited for the preparation of the fruit plate (two sliced apples, five sliced strawberries, one sliced banana and six grapes) for over 45 minutes, so speed is a big weakness in the hotel. We were missing a tissue box in the room. The walls were very thin and we could hear the neighbors next to us and other guests in the hallway. Last night I heard my neighbor through the wall snoring 😳. The noise was even through the windows (which were well closed). The floor creaked in places. So staying at the hotel for a price of over 150 Euros per night was very disappointing. Everything cannot be excused or to say that we paid a higher price for the view. We came to the hotel looking for quality services, which we did...
