Read moreMy husband and I went there last night with a couple of friends. It was our second time and the food was great as it was the first time. I love the atmosphere and decore of the place very casual, the kind of place that I would frequent during my university years. So why only two stars? Let's put it this way...don't expect service with a smile. Now of course I don't expect the service I would get at a high end restaurant but I do expect politeness and not the feeling that I am inconviencing the wait staff. The person who took our order was efficient to the point that it felt she just wanted to get it over with. Fine enough but not welcoming in the least. There was some confusion as to whether the waitress brought the lamb I had ordered or chicken as the waitress Introduced it as chicken to the table, a slip of the tongue. When I said I had ordered lamb she"insisted" she had said lamb, now that is not in of itself a big deal but she was at the point of being argumentative, even though all four of us heard chicken. Again not a big deal but weird. Then she removed a small bottle of wine that was half full when we mentioned it they insisted it was empty with an offer 30 min later to replace it with a different wine no "opps, our mistake" or an easy "sorry for the inconvience" The wine was served with water glassses when there were wine glasses as we could clearly see from the other tables that had wine. There were many other small details that I could mention and I understand it sounds petty but when added all together it makes for a very unwelcoming experience. Too bad because the food is very good and the...
Read moreAppreciated the food and can recommend!
The place is not necessarily too comfortable (small, tall tables and chairs squished in next to each other). The visual access to the kitchen is appealing, but bear in mind that - as others have mentioned - despite the air ventilation, there will necessarily be a smell in the air — and (slightly) on the clothes.
Now, back to food: x1 spice icon dishes were hardly spicy, and x3 spice icons were medium-spicy — so that is clearly adjusted for the local clientele.
The rice portion that came with the Chicken Tikka Massala could have been more generous, as we had to order extra rice on the side.
Lastly, about the atmosphere: we had the privilege of good rhythmic music that was neither too loud nor disturbing, so a plus in my opinion. However, chairs were not in my opinion very comfortable and tables s bit crammed together.
To close, a positive note for the kitchen’s timing — four main dishes served together. Furthermore, staff was busy but doing a great job at it — always a pleasant plus. :)
All said, I would recommend Babaji at least once for the food.
It is good to know and bear in mind the close-court situation, ensuing potential waiting to get a table and slight smell on clothes if planning to go out later in the night. Though one can expect to get well-served, well-cooked, well-sized meal and have a great time and experience...
