Well, this hotel probably was the worst choice i might have ever made throughout a life of traveling. If you have money to throw down the drain, then choose this hotel. I booked a room here just to be close to Syntagma and because a last minute cancellation was made by the Airbnb i had booked. The hotel looks nice at a first glance as you enter the beautiful lobby. While at the reception i was met by a young lady that had a permanent smirk on her face while communicating with me. Then she insisted to have my card in case i would use the mini bar which i assured her that i did not have the need to use.I resisted to give out the card because i've been burned before by 2-3 5⭐ hotels that had done withdrawals without my consent and this prior to even enter the room or open the mini bar and it took me weeks to have my money back. Since i was reluctant to live the card she asked for 100 euro from me(50/night) for those 10 max overpriced, basic things they have in the minibar. In the end i gave in and left my card to be swiped. I went upstairs to the room(617) and i've never seen a smaller room that felt so claustrophobic,a normal one person bed and no place to put my suitcase. It didn't even have a proper balcony cause it was a fake one consisting of the door and a rail and a tiny triangle shaped slab.No chairs or anything. Not that you had much to see right there but this was a 370 euro/night room. I've never seen anything like that at that price and i've traveled the entire world. Not even in Dubai or Singapore,5⭐ hotels. You get a suite for that money. This is profiteering in the worst way possible. The room had zero insulation and it was 2 sleepless terror nights. The music from the bars nearby and the noise from the streets was palpable and the worst was that the second day on sunday when i tried to get some sleep after breakfast, the cleaners who i think had their supply room near to mine, were opening & closing the door/s not stop for hours. Om my last day, before breakfast i called reception for a later checkout and the manager told me that 12 was the latest cause they were fully booked. I checked on all booking sites to make sure...they had plenty of rooms available. Availability existed even hours later but i had to check out at 12.Ridiculous. The same day, after breakfast again,i was in the room and at 10.35 the cleaner just opens the room while i'm lying on my bed...no knocking, nothing and i had the "Don't disturb" button on. I went up pretty annoyed and angry and asked what she is doing cause it wasn't even check out time and she said she wanted to pick the trash🤦🏻♀️ I shook my had in disbelief cause i've never encountered anything more absurd than this to be honest. So,this was my experience with Electra Metropolis,an overall disaster from beginning to the end and i would not stay there even if i was paid honestly. The only nice thing with this hotel is the view & the breakfast which i'd like to give 5⭐ too but i don't get that choice. They have to come down from their high horses and coordinate better and just change current management. So if this hotel is a 5⭐ hotel, then i'm the queen of Danmark. You get plenty of better choices in Athens to a fraction of the price. Choose...
Read moreAmong the hotels in Athens, I'm particularly fond of Electra. That's why this is my second stay here after 2022 (and I've stayed for a whole week this time!). However, to be honest, compared to the pleasant surprise of my first stay, many detail-related issues have surfaced this time. I hope this hotel, which enjoys unique advantages, can make improvements and live up to its own positioning.
First, let's talk about the strengths. Its location is arguably the most superior in Athens. The restaurant and swimming pool on the rooftop are truly remarkable (perfect; if I have to nitpick, the space beside the pool is limited, making it hard to find an empty sun lounger at times, and the cleanliness of the restroom attached to the pool needs enhancement). The front desk staff are enthusiastic and professional. The rooms are clean, simple, and spacious (some room types have extremely beautiful balconies).
This time, I'd rather focus on some shortcomings in the details, which are clearly inconsistent with its five-star standard. 1)We had three people staying in the room, but most of the time, we were only provided with one bottle of water, and on some days, no bottled water was replenished at all (unless we actively called to request water delivery). 2)Due to our itinerary arrangements, we stayed in three different rooms this time. However, each room had varying degrees of poor drainage in the shower or sink (the most severe case was a shower room that was almost unusable due to a clogged drain). 3)Despite having three people staying, we were only given one set of toothbrushes. 4)Severe noise problem: After midnight every night, the street becomes extremely noisy (with the constant clattering of glass bottles or the drunken shouting and singing). The windows look sturdy, but their sound insulation is clearly inadequate. These are all shortcomings in detail management, issues that should not occur so frequently in a five-star hotel.
In addition, perhaps due to the post-pandemic boom in the tourism industry, the guests staying at the hotel are noticeably of mixed quality, leading to some ridiculous elevator incidents we experienced. 1)Several elderly white women, disregarding the facts, shouted loudly at us with extremely unfriendly expressions, claiming that the elevator was going down and forcibly pushed us, who were preparing to go to the rooftop for breakfast, out of the elevator. 2)Another time in the afternoon, two obviously drunk white women, holding wine glasses filled with wine and burping, reeked of alcohol in the elevator, sized us up with unfriendly glances, and deliberately whispered unkind remarks (they foolishly assumed we didn't understand English, haha). The hotel should explicitly inform all guests that getting drunk in public areas of the hotel is not allowed. This is basic etiquette. It shows that people who can afford the room rates are not always...
