BAOBAO — Restaurant in Athens

So having a Chinese restaurant that serves dishes from various parts of the country is always a challenge. Northern Chinese food is as different from southern Chinese food. As swedish food is from sicilian. I lived in China for many years and still go back multiple times each year. So it seems that the chefs are southern chinese in this restaurant. They do the dim sum and fried rice, fried noodles very well. The more central northern food dishes are not as good. So we got an order of shrimp dumplings, and they were very good. Next time i'm only ordering dumplings. I love chicken and corn soup, this one was both lacking flavor and lacking chicken or corn. The vegetable fried noodles also had very little vegetable in it. The gong bao chicken was very disappointing. A liquidy sauce (should be more sticky coating ingredients) was not the right flavor at all. You can tell they cook the chicken in the sauce and then just add pickled vegetables and poured more sauce over it. I've spent over 30 years in China I've never been given pickled vegetables in this dish. 😫 The peanuts were also added at the end rather than being sauteed with other ingredients. Absolutely amazing experience! We had dinner here recently and everything was just perfect — from the friendly staff to the beautiful, stylish decor. 👌🏻Every little detail was thoughtfully done, from the unique light fixtures to even the design of the chopsticks! We came here for a very late lunch craving for Asian food in Athens. The place feels like an instagram-worthy 30 seconds production. However, the food was just okay. Thank god for the beer or else it will be mediocre. After all that, our server Albi was disrespectful and homophobic. Right from the beginning, you’d feel the tension and hatred coming from him while serving us. I am glad his pal (a Filipino server - sorry i forgot your name) came to the rescue and provided excellent service.
